Solid! I take it these are heavily CPU limited ehh?

haha they are so nice with vantage though :D

Awesome job guys, these cards rock. Double post some runs?

I guess getting high scores in new stuff is more fun then milking an old farted cow no?

Thanks, was looking around for your scores from Dreamhack. Nice SLI runs.

I ran the older benches.

I'm with massman on this one.

Show us some 110k+ numbers in '01 yourself first, and then start talking about milking old cows and fun (and skill) of doing it.

[personal opinion on]
With Vantage, the real milking cow are actually we, benchers, and the one who milks us is Futuremark.

These cards should be pretty much optimized for Vantage and there's no better way for nVidia doing its PR at launch than to give these cards to selected legendary overclockers, which is the case here.
[/personal opinion off]

Other than that, nice scores, I wish I had the opportunity to be there as well.

Nice work Marcus and Robert, only the best from you guys as always :D

Did you figure out the vGPU-mod for the GTXs? If so what voltage were supplied? How cold did you run them (any sign of coldbug)? What clocks did you get out of them?

Oh, and that cascade looks awesome :)

congrats guys, amazing setup  but (sorry to tell this) why only Vantage numbers? im more curious to other benchmarks, especially 01 nature scores :D baah cant wait to test this newbies

Performance preset update.

We took the wrong screen dump with us back to the hotel so we have to post screens from the orb instead. Print screen will be up tomorrow.

Thanks Jon :)

It has the same vreg as the GX2, and here is a picture: (opposite side of the vreg IC)

We used a 100 ohm, but if I would redo it I would use a 50 ohm.

We didn't really have time to check what voltages that were required, but we ran at around 1.55 (stock ~1.2v)
One card had 1.70 for a brief moment :p: (my bad)
Some cold throttling at around -70C, we think. Again, not much time to test extensively.
Clocks were around 950/1950/1250, +/- 50.

3d'06 please :)

Plus, why do legends keep using 3 cards when bottleneck would be a lot less and pots a lot bigger with just two cards :stick:

This is not the case with vantage X / H scores. They scale pretty well and are mostly GPU bounded. P score is little more CPU related, but it still scale nicely with more GPUs / MHz. So 3 cards give you best results and later when 55nm GX2 cards come out, vantage will be fun to test.

3DM06 is almost pure CPU test with current high end cards in SLI or Quad whatever.

These comments show how little we know about vantage :D It's not that awful, even if it looks like that

I agree with you we do know very little about Vantage (I certainly know little about it) but we are familiar with the others 2001 03 05 and 06 toss in a AM3 for good measure. I am really puzzled why both Vince and now these reports are not showing the known benchmarks. Is there a embargo on posting those results due to bad performance of the cards? That is what I am thinking at present, that the cards are optimized for Vantage and nothing else.:confused:

It's not about the bench itself, it's about the conditions in which the bench is run ;)

01, 05, and 06 benching should work a lot better under XP with 2 cards. Single card might be pretty fun as well. 3 GTX280s is WAY too much GPU power for those heavily CPU limited benchmarks.

Wow
Never thought I'd hear 05 and 06 and "heavily CPU limited" in one sentence...

till today.

Older 3DMarks please, we want to see real power of this rig, not only one "bench" with crazy optimized nv drivers.

With the last drops of ln2 we tried to get a 03 score but without luck. These card in 3-way sli will bring down the current records for sure. At 928/1900/1250MHz the totalt frames renderd in gt2 were above 100k, gt3 around 70k if I remeber correctly. Mother nature froze during loading :(

For 06 I really think ATI still is the better choise, 3-way or 4-way air cooled RV770 will be my future choise for 06. SLI is still stealing to much system power to be used with old cpu limited benchmarks.

For 01 I see good use for one of these cards though. No SLI will boost 01 for sure.

05 still belongs to ATI for the same reasons as 06.

GTX280 sure rock the new DX10 3DMark Vantage :D It will have to look out for 4-way 4870 though, especially performance preset since it allread is very cpu limited.

Thanks for all these info Kinc, really interesting

One question though ... Will ATi ever manage to achieve nice fps in 3D 01 nature ? :(

great runs guys, did the gtx280 like the cold?no coldbugs?

I think they managed to cold the gtx down (:D) to -70 without any problems ;)

great runs guys, did the gtx280 like the cold?no coldbugs?

It loves it, seems to be a throttle problem when the pot goes down to -70C but other than that it runs great under cold. Dry Ice should work very well.

The cold issue might be software related since the temp sensors in RivaTuner start to act strange at those temps. Let's hope for a BIOS solution :)

Either software or hardware.
I've noticed something with the 9800GTXs:
Getting past the coldbug temperature ( starting from the very first "coldbug" degree ) the OVP was activating immediately.
Looks like a software/firmware or hardware issue ( maybe the monitoring chipset ? )

Maybe it is my slow internet connection, maybe the quality of the clip... But I think you should stick to the electronic part of benching! :D :D ;) It is rather fun to see hardware that hardly exists being treaded like that.

Nice results as always!
