Numbers speak for themselves I think :D..I pushed a bit harder on some tests than others due to time limits this past week, but still managed some pretty nice numbers benching on my own again. So much easier to bench alone in the cave :). I hear these aren't even the final drivers yet with the extra physX muscle. First ran some overclocked air numbers which the cards could easily do with stock voltage and fans cranked up on evga tool.
All three cards I tested could do 760 core on air with stock volts. This new rev of EVGA tool is so sweet.

You can see the cards rock in vantage bigtime. The bench runs way smoother now even in the highest preset :D It really is four benchmarks in one as all the presets require diff tunnig. Great job FM! Vantage is my new favorite 4 games :)

Skulltrail owns in entry preset for sure.... but I used it anyways to be complete. I had some trouble getting triple sli enabled on skulltrail so we will have to see how that plays out. 57-5800 will put up alot nicer score for E preset on 790i. Also pulled a 130k+ 03 score at lower clocks, but there is still some weird throttling going on with vista making the scores go all over the place. Need to to spend alot of time tuning there seperate from vantage before anything else.

I am getting used to vantage and really like it alot now. It seems to stress the HW alot harder than most other 3D benchmark, especially high and extreme preset on New Calico for gpu. Full 03' runs are totally clean and stable at higher gpu clocks than vantage 100%, same for 01 nature. For all out load testing my gpu units in 3d benchmarks, I can't overlook it as a great tool. High high clocks in quad core vantage are well earned for sure believe me. Running that big ass 24inch monitor while benching Ln2 is a little weird too, makes me dizzy :D but it's still pretty cool and something totally new to try. Time for something new.

Yah the new tool is working very nicely Jac. It comes up so fast and the clocks are right there where you need them for fast access.
P30K for sure with this setup :D.
X18K, H24K, and E57K are good targets too

@K404 yah I suspect that too a little. It's still really new but most that bench these cards will get lots of practice with vantage I bet. It runs so nice on them.

Rivatuner doesn't work properly past 693MHz core speed nor does nvidia performance software for some reason

Would it be possible, with a four-dual slot PCI-E supporting mobo (I don't know if the MSI K9A2 is the only one to do is or if skulltrail supports this) to run three of them in tri-SLI and a fourth one as a pure physics coprocessor once the physx drivers are out?

edit - had a look and it appears there's no room for a fourth card if the third slot is populated by a dual-slot card. And obviously there's no SLI on the K9A2, not to mention the lack of Core 2 on that chipset.

06 doesnt really take advantage of the cards as Vantage does.

Awesome results Vince, delivering huge numbers on launch again.

Skulltrail is only capable of dual card SLI from what I am told and tried with 3x 8800 Ultras. Roll up with anything over 4.9Ghz and a physx card and it will break 55k on entry.

Dino's no problem going 700+ for benching with rivatuner, I had do a complete HD reload to get all the bugs worked out. I tried uninstalling both rivatuner and nvidia drivers and had problems clocking the card at first.

there is no one here with more knowledge on how cooling impacts OCing on these and possible issues as he's been testing them for a while lol


throttling he is talking about is not what you linked to either. In fact that article is not talking about throttling but power management of these cards. They've been designed to turn off any unused part of the chip and also lower frequencies to reduce idle power consumption but that does not affect performance in any way

Vince is talking about coldbug throttling most likely where silicone at certain temperature starts to show some irregularities

I think maybe 5800mhz+ could do low 90's, but 100k is pushing it.

Futuremark removed all the gtx280 scores from the orb and has now instituted their driver approval policy for vantage as well as the other 3dmarks guys. They are just doing their job as driver approval policy implementation is normal for 3dmark and was already planned for vantage.

Yes sure, but regarding to Futuremark's rules it was designed to test CPU Physics, not GPU physics which is ALREADY being tested in Game tests 1 & 2. The "problem" Futuremark is facing is that NVIDIA bought AGEIA in the middle of 3DMark Vantage development.

And since there are alot more games using Havok's physics engine than AGEIA's PhysX it's kinda stupid that Futuremark implemented support for PPU in the first place.

Anyway, will be interesting to see how things go on. Lets stay in the subject. Sorry about offtopic :)

The Inquirer editor Charlie is known of hating NVIDIA and favoring AMD/ATI in his news posts and you can clearly see that in the text. If you remove all bad-mouthing and insults about NVIDIA and their products, some of the content actually makes sense. Anyway, I think he might have deserved the cake on his face :)

You are getting there Vince. 5.6 GHz, that CPU can do more, right? ;)

Vantage release had the worst timing ever. If everything would be like this from the beginning, the reputation of Vantage would be a lot higher. Scores changed way too much on the same system since Vantage came out. But regardless of what Futuremark allows to be published on the ORB, review sites will use the PhysX driver as Nvidia is making sure everybody gets the driver. A lot of review sites got the pro license from futuremark and use the latest drivers, so non enthusiastic people see those big numbers and how AMD/Ati gets that low scores though the hardware is not that slow in real world applications (games).

You have to admit that for an outsider it is hard to keep track of the current results when on the exact same system the final score increased by almost 50% using the PhysX driver. But what I don't get is why Futuremark allowed to take physics cards into the scoring system. Even though Ageia was bought in the middle of the development of Vantage, they could have disabled that scoring system for physics cars and so GPU physics, in case the scoring works that way..

I wish the would have taken 06 and add more fireflies to the forest and a non physics test ^^

Not using QX9770 because he has a better clocking QX9650(he doesn't run stock) and not a skulltrail due to the slow and hot FB-DIMM's

If you don't get the 'sli capability' message, it's a conflict in the Nvidia drivers, I think.

they are the same internally, but the qx9770 sports a native 1600fsb.. I guess sometimes it's nicer to just test with a trusty cpu which you know works well at 5.6ghz rather than finding a new one that isn't cold bugged and might go a little further.. my WAG

At this level of o'cing,the naming of the CPU doesn't matter,what matters is it speed,now every top-overclocker has a good clocking QX9650(5.6Ghz to 6Ghz range),so they simply stick with it,unless AndreYang is giving Vince(aka K|ngp|n) some new golden CPU's(something with a LGA1366 socket would be nice:p:)

The 9650co has had better days in quad. It's still going 2 cores pretty good though Tell me you have seen a 9650 last longer or take more abuse then whats been thrown at this chip :D
This cpu has spent 99% of it's VERY long life benching -120 to -130c and 1.94v average voltage. I rarely run it on air and it has take so many WR's I can't even count them. VERY GOOD CHIP...

First round windows XP benching using two gtx280's in SLI went good.
Gonna switch over to 9770c1 5.7-5750mhz/475-500fsb quad capable for 2006on my final runs, but the 9650 is putting out again for 05 which is good.
Really want to see NV up top again in 2006..hopefully tonight :up:
If this CO chip could still do 5900mhz 06, it would have been lights out last night in 2006 :D

06 loads all 4 cores and is typically not stable to as high of a CPU frequency as 05, which only really needs 1 core. If you look at CPU-Z in his 05 run, you can see that two cores have been disabled as it shows only 2 cores for a QX9650.

C1 has seen better days as well and is more sensitive to cold than C0 on evga mobo. -125c on gt1,2,3,4 and cpu tests -130c max for C1. Chip needs colder to scale all the way though so I am running each game test at max temp on the edge with this chip.
FSB goes like hell though @490+ FSB and lower cpu speed and just 200 points to go...was so close during chip testing on teh evga mobo, but CPU started freaking out from all the voltage after awhile. Gotta crank it to run this FSB on LN2 even for 5600mhz :D. Corsair 1800C7's are screaming here...

I have to admit, I don't think the new drivers are cheating in anyway. It's not like it's skipping any part of the test......it is just being calculated by another part with the same end results only faster. Now if it was taking parts of the test out, that would be cheating.

@DPA cpu is still goign strong 5.8+ 2 cores :D, but enable core 2 and 3 and won't load windows lol.

New Vantage HIGH scores with EVGA gear. Doesn't really matter what futuremarks policy is for vantage atm... NVIDIA physX rocks this benchmark and it's lame to run it any other way for top scores :D. The other side(s) will kick and scream for awhile until they get something of their own going ..and then of course it will be ok :up:
