View Full Version : Anyone find the suspense is worse than the scare?

I have never, ever, played a game that could build suspense like this game can.

In November, I formatted my rig and forgot to move my save file over, so I lost it. I just started playing this again recently, and now I'm much further along than I was before. I've avoided places that I knew scared the **** out of me, like the first walk into X18 (I think?) where you get to the bottom of the steps and the boxes start floating... yeah, I got out of there quick.

I've done just about everything I can to prolong my time out of places like that... done about a million "jobs" for the barkeep and that trader guy at the Cordon. I've just gotten sick of murdering people with their "I don't like this guy, so no one would miss him if he died..." jobs, so now I'm finally going down to find Strelok's stash at the Agroprom. I've been down here before on my first run through the game, encountered one 'sucker and one of those psychosis things on my way out, so I know what I'm going to find on my way through it this time, but still, the suspense and the atmosphere get to me.:(

I was on my way to the Lair of the Bloodsucker on my last run through the game, so I wasn't too upset when I formatted over my save file. ;)

Anyone else agree? The suspense in this game is fantastic, as much as I hate it. Overall, the game isn't that scary, but the suspense makes it so.

To give you guys an idea of how the suspense affects me, the first bloodsucker I found when I was looking for Strelok's stash, I found it while playing the game half asleep, 3am, in the dark. I looked at the weird wavy clear object coming towards me... I moved in closer to my monitor to see if it was an anomaly or not. The 'sucker appeared, and I flipped backwards out of my chair. While I was laying on my bedroom floor making sure I wasn't having a heart attack, the POS killed me.

LOL hope you didn't hit your head!

Yeah they put the saves in the most unintuitive, ridiculous location I have ever seen. But I can't remember where exactly now. See that's how ridiculous it was.

No, head was fine. Some might tell you otherwise, but my head is fine. ;)

Put the saves in the most rediculous locations? Huh?

The save game files themselves live in some really stupid, hard to find place that I have never seen any other game use so I'm not surprised you didn't back them up before format. Really easy to forget to do or simply miss them all together.

For a second I thought you meant that the stashes (like Strelok's underground at Agroprom) were in stupid places. Then I thought you meant that the game does an auto save at weird spots.

I never even thought to look for the save game files before I formatted... After about 7% in the format process, I realized what had already been done. :(

wait what game is this?? it sounds great!
