My QX9770 arrived a few days ago (C1 / L803B248)... MB used (ASUS P5E3 Deluxe)

I'm having a few problems with my new CPU... 3.8ghz is stable @ 1.30v (Prime95 & HyperPI) - Unfortunately 4ghz not 100% stable... It’s crazy... I can change my bios settings to get Prime95 stable, but then HyperPI will freeze or HyperPI Stable and Prime95 will crash...

3.8Ghz p95 stable on air (there is screenie in the Blackops thread). This build is taking me a long time but eventually the chip will go under water once everything is sorted and im back home from out of town.

4ghz on air is causing too much heat under full load for me atm. :(

P95 stable (small FFT's + Blend) 8 hours + OCCT stable 8 hours @ 1.088V:up:

Once 72 hour burn in completed will determine max OC + max OC for 24/7. Also, max speed of 2 x 2GB OCZ Flex II DDR2-9200 vs Corsair DDR2-10000 (2 x 1GB / 4 x 1GB) on Rampage Formula @ default RAM voltages.

UPDATE: 8hour P95 + OCCT stable 24/7 OC:

An interesting observation - since completion of burn-in I conducted an Artic Cooling MX-2 vs Artic Silver 5 head to head. Allowing for the vagaries of seating, I completed 5 re-seats with MX-2 + 5 re-seats with AS5 (on each occasion this was preceeded by thorough cleansing with ArticClean 1 followed by ArticClean 2). I make no representations other than observation from my own system experimentation, however while I expected MX-2 to prevail the converse was true; @ idle AS5 evidenced a performance advantage of 1.5 degrees celcius, and under load (P95) evidenced a performance advantage of 2.1 degrees celcius.

What are you temps @ 4.2 under full load....

the highest I got was 64C on core 1 for a second or two, it mostly stayed around 60C to 62C. my idle temp is 46C. it's warm here in Florida right now and ambient temps in my house are high @ 79degrees.

Hi all,
I am running 3.8Ghz at 1.24v on prime and seems the temp is very high. It hit 78 degrees and core 1 would fail. when it fails the temp will drop to 65 degrees instantly. do i need to reapply the artic silver? or is that normal?

I suspect that your CPU volts are too low – usually when a core start to fail under prime its voltage related... Ooo and yeah those temps seem to be a bit high for 1.24v (What are your ambient temps / cooling method / is it just that one core?)....

If your only have issues with that one core I would recommend reapply your thermal compound…

Note: Also keep in mind that your CPU PLL volts can and will contribute to your core temps…

Which cooler mate ?

I am using OCZ Vendetta 2 with NF-P12. This is the first time using this type of cooling. Here is a newbie question: should the fan be blowing towards the the HS and out the back or pulling air away from the HS and out the back?

Only that one core seem to fail but OCCT shows all core to be hot hot up to 80+ on load.

OCCT shows 40 degrees... but Asus probe shows 14 degrees, which is right?

Edit: I just installed CPUID Hardware Monitor and it also shows 40s

get Realtemp it's way better than any of those & delete the Asus suite of software it's Sh*tware go with, Realtemp, CPUZ for your stats & go with Prime95 to do yer benching run all three at the same time & u will know how your system is handling a full load & is it's stable or not

done. using CPUZ, Prime and Hardware Monitor (will get realtemp). reapplied the artic silver and adjusted the fan position now load temp is at low 60s

testing now 3.8 @ 1.2v

Realtemp will give very close to real temps compare what it says to HWM & believe it
give the ambiant room temp also it being summer & all

let us know how it goes & what setting's yer using

Thanx

Its pass prime95 for 8 hours 3.8Ghz at 1.208v, how long before its considered stable? Also what test do you use; small large or blend?

Small for CPU test mate... Looks like a nice one :) hope you get 4ghz with sub 1.3 volt...

Ok why use small ? for CPU ? I'm new to O/C'in these puppies
i was up to 4ghz but on blend it failed at 8 hours at good temps

Hi, I ran small for the CPU with 4 threads open. I tried increasing the voltage and running at higher speed but it gets too hot.. 70 degrees.

What is the max load temp recommended? What idle temp is good? Right now my idle temp is 40 degrees

Leeghoofd

Small really stresses CPU, Blend does CPU and RAM and Large really RAM and NB... look at the temps, with Blend your CPU wil never get as hot as eg with Small... One thing I don't liek with Prime if one core fails the test will continue... I do mostly one or 2hours Prime then OCCT 2 hour test one CPU and one RAM and then the rig folds and is being gamed upon...

For ya temps mate plz look if the IHS or the heatsink is not convex or concave... if so you either got the choice to Lap this CPU and VOID warranty or sell it and try to get a good one as you got now or just live with it... if the CPU is flat better get another cooler like a TRUE with a decent mount and backplate
