I mean come on already! ...me and my God given luck...:shakes:

First my WD 500GB GP drive arrives DOA and now this. My build will NEVER be complete. They continue to bit the dust!

I have 8 WD1000FYPS drives intended for my Raid5 array, I'm testing how everything works for some time now. And everything was going fine.

Yesterday a drive on port3 dropped with "power on restart" failure given by 3ware controller.
I tried to rebuild but it kept doing the same in a loop.
Tried to switch ports with another drive... No go, still the same drive gives errors.

So, I DL the WD diag tools and it reported nothing's wrong although the the tests were finished in 2sec time:rolleyes:. I mean come ON wd, those are you own drives.
So, I wrote zeroes to "entire" drive and what do I notice: the drive is a whooping 33MB in size.

After that debacle I tried Seatools and it reports error when doing a "short generic" test it fails when doing "outer" region test.

Sure enough: bios, and disk management all see it as a 33Mb drive, you can even format it... I have to see if I can bench it, though:D

DAMN, all this.
But I guess I could consider myself lucky for not loading my data on it already:rolleyes:Yeah quite lucky...:shakes:

Dang man !

Can you take out that drive and format it in windows as a single drive and see the full amount of space ?

LOL, vrci to u radnju u menjaj, sta se igras :D
But since you got those... can you measure the power consumption of those drives? (say total system power with/without the 8 drives, and possibly spinup power consumption difference)

@Buckeye: I tried dude, the disk menagement and win see it as a cool 33MB:)

@alfaunits: Jaoooo! Sto me nece:) Sutra zovem svog dilera...:D

I did the power measurements. Adding one drive at a time it always adds ~0.02 to the power draw, and that makes it ~4.5W during normal/idle opperation.
The spinup I will have to go and see.
I posted some figures in my Raid5 thread in general hardware section.

Just realised that if I leave it this way I can probably applay for Guiness book of records for the most expensive drive per GB EVER!
~10000$/GB :ROTF::ROTF:

Probably firmware issues... Sometimes the passport gets corrupted and you get crap like that. Nothing you can do really, RMA.
