My P5K-DLX just died so i'm stuck to using an Asrock 775Dual-VSTA until I can get a new board.

The 775Dual is limited to 4x PCI-E and the Gen1 bioses for G92's dont work on 4x PCI-E apparently... so i'm also stuck to using my backup 8400GS (it's been pushed over 3.0v core lol)..

Anyway, are there newer bioses available?

edit

Also is there a way to get bioses with slightly more agressive fan profiles without having to make one myself?

Techpowerup hs an archive of vga bios.
I just got an xfx alpha dog 8800gts myself.
Might post a thread to see if their are any custom bios' out there with fan settings by other members already.

There are only Gen 1 BIOSes for the 8800GT. The fix for these things is going to have to come from the motherboard manufacturers. VIA boards are the only boards that have this problem.

There are Gen 2 bioses listed on Techpowerup which fix this issue but they are for EVGA and other makes.

The 88GTS should be auto switching on most platforms. By searching online I found other users using the same board you have the were getting no display but their 88GTS worked fine in other boards. I think it is just that specific board because other VIA boards work with this card but still only VIA chipsets have problems with 2.0 cards. Download NiBiTor and rip the BIOS from the card. PM me and I will give you my email address to send it to me and we can see if we can mod your BIOS to work.

I'm just going to hobble along until my new motherboard arrives, I dont have anything spare to use for flashing or even reading the bios off it with.

Thanks though.

For future reference if this pops up again here's info on it from "Engineer" on Anandtech:

I have been using an ATI AIW X800XT AGP card for about a year with no problems.

System:
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA, BIOS 3.10
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 260x10=2.6Ghz
2x1GB PC2-6400 HP RAM
ANTEC Smart Power 500W PSU
Windows XP Pro-SP2

EVGA 8800GTS 512mb PCI-E Video card
ATI AIW X800XT AGP video card.\

You'll need another motherboard to use (borrow) to flash your card with a newer EVGA (NVidia reference) BIOS. You can download the 62.92.25.00.05 version of your BIOS here....and it should work with the VIA chipset of the 775Dual-VSTA board.

You will need the NVFlash program to pull your existing BIOS and save (recommended) and to flash your card with this version. You can download the latest NVFlash from this site also.

By the way, I tried to boot up using a PCI card (along with the 8800GT card) and it was a no-go on this board. I assume you won't be able to boot with the AGP and the 8800GT installed at the same time.

Good luck!

Read a couple posts above yours...looks like you need a PCI-E version 1.0 BIOS for your 8800GTS card (by Engineer).

The newer generation BIOS are a hybrid BIOS that works with either. Earlier BIOS versions could be edited with NiBiTor to be Gen 1 or Gen 2. Nvidia released version 62.92.24.xx.xx and higher that now act as either Gen 1 or Gen 2 depending on your board at bootup.
