Hi chaps

Im after 2x 120MM case fans ... they have to perform well and be quiet at the same time, what would you suggest?

Scythe S Flex 1200 or 1600 fans or Yate Loon DSM

Yates are cheaper but not as good quality or as silent as the scythes

Read the Fans sticky from Vapor, lots of good information.

Noiseblocker BlackSilent XL2 or XL1 for ultimate bang for buck.

The best 120mm case intake/exhuast fan in terms of noise:cfm:db ratio = Scythe S-FDB 1200rpm or 1600rpm variant.
The best 120mm heatsink intake/exhuast fan in terms of noise:cfm:static pressure:db ratio = Noctua NF-P12

IMHO,

I'm not at all convinced that the P12 is especially-good on a radiator/heatsink, TBH. :(

Based on radiator numbers I have on others too...it's okay but not great :-/

I like my Zalman F3s as case fans, but only if you have a fan controller, too loud on full speed. Not tried the low speed cable that comes with it though.

I'm amazed to know that the YL fans performed very well against other fans that you've tested, and it even outperforms P12 in terms of CFM and air flow loss with different types of grills. And YL fans can be bought for a very cheap price, it's a terrific bang for your buck fan

Nice review

Noctua NF-P12 (1300 PRM)
Silverstone FN-121 (1200 RPM)
Ultra Kaze DFS123812L-1000 (1000 RPM)
Yate Loon D12SL-12 (1350 RPM)

After reading all the pages in the review, I'm totally convinced that P12 will still be my #1 choice for a push-pull config on my lapped TRUE.
Yes, the YL fans have a better dollar to performance ratio than P12 but I couldn't be sold for its rated 28db.
P12 is currently selling for roughly $20 CDN but I've seen the price went down to ~$15 in the past.

I'm surprised too, but I still like using them on my Noctua heatsink. Besides, one was included with it:p: Perhaps they work a bit better with the slightly wider-spaced fins of the NH-U12P compared to the sleeker fins of the TRUE. But I wouldn't want to use the Noctua's for case fans, too expensive for the performance they provide, compared to say, a decent Yate Loon. Vapor's fan filter airflow tests provided some more useful information to back this up:cool:
