Hi guys , I just put together my first ddr3 rig (rig 1 in my sig) and with all the issues with corruption and stability I thought I should test that first up . With everything at default memtest failed badly from test2 on so I bumped vdimm up a little and it pased 5 passes no worries , what should vdimm be set to ? It defaulted to 1333mhz 7-7-7 1.500v and has been passing memtest at 1.55v , what should I run this ram at ? Is underclocking a problem ? Should I unlink it and push it up to 1600 right away ? What volts would it like when pushing it hard ?

Any help would be great.

Edit : Prime95 just failed on one core at default clocks too , only lasted 5 mins.

I have the same kit and it is rated at 1.9V so you should try that. You might also need a slight NB voltage increase if running 1600Mhz

Memtest alone is not enough, try OCCT or prime blend test for some 2-3 hours at least or heavy gaming etc :)

I have been trying for three hours to get it prime stable at stock clocks , its been running 10 mins so far which is twice its previous best , so fingers crossed.

I believe it's warrantied up to 1.95vdimm but it'll only need 1.85 to 1.9v to do 1800C7, or atleast that's what my last kit did. Good luck clocking them

Clocking - I hope they will , its taken me hours just to work out what they need to be stable at stock . Here is my post in the 790i thread:

Hi guys , its just taken me a few hours of fiddling to get my evga 790i stable with cpu at stock (!!!) but Im new to ddr3 and most of my problem was all of the ram settings defaulted way off the mark . My ram defaults to 1333-7-7-7 1.5v so I assumed that would at least work for a baseline , this memtested fine (after increasing vdimm a little) but when it failed prime I started working on the cpu and increasing voltage made it worse . Increasing ram to 1600 made auto timings go to 9-9-9 and it still failed. In the end I manually set ram to 1600-7-7-7 and tried 1.8v and it primed for 2 1/2 hours before I powered down for the night.

Has anyone else had these hassles or is it my n00b-ness causing problems ?

With unlinked mem/cpu does that mean that when I get my ram stable I can leave it alone and trust it while I work on cpu clocks ? I never got the potential out of my L737B on my MF so Im hoping the 790i will help.

Any help would be great.

For those with sigs turned off its : EVGA 790i Ultra L737B Q6600 OCZ platinum 1600-7-7-7 2GB

I think I may have found the source of at least some of my problems , why does my 12800 ram show up as 10700 in cpu-z ?

Any ideas guys ?

Don't worry about that, look at part number :) Your kit is rated 12800 7-7-7 1.9V - the sticker on RAM should say and they should run this speed and timings :) You can also see that SPD does not have 800Mhz 7-7-7-20 1.9V entry. It means you have to set it manually in bios
