I just started using my second dB-1 pump that I got as a replacement for the first. Its having the same problem as the first, it starts out nice and quiet, then begins rattling with only a few hours of use. It has nothing to do with mounting, and according to the instructions, I'm running it using the proper inlet/outlet. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? Here's (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1275638&highlight=db-1) another user with the same problem over at [H] from a while back.

Edit: Here are the pictures.

I was getting some funny noises with my own DB-1 back when I first got it. For the first hour or so, it was fine, then I started to get a mild rattling/grinding noise, even when it was suspended, no matter what I did. Finally, I just gave up, ignored it, and after a few more days, it went away and has been dead silent ever since.

I am guessing it is just air bubbles.

I just got one, I'll have to check into it. The bigger brother did have some washers at both ends of the shaft, I suppose if a washer was missing it could have some movement of the impeller.

What bigger brother, Martin?

I have had 2 dtek-db1s since july 2007. They are excellent pumps, ultra quiet (near inaudible unless you stick your hand on it to feel the pump running or stick your ear on it) and danny from d-tek provides great customer support.

Now, when I first got my db1s, I noticed that one of them would emit this rattling noise as well (almost a grinding noise). At times, I would slam the thing down onto the petras gel stuff and the noise would go away. The noise would come and go.

My conclusion from my drama from the db1s is that it was just air bubbles. Once my loop was completely bled (took about 1 month w/ my t-line setup), these pumps never made such noise again.

I ran my last dB-1 for well over 72 hours total, and the noise never went away. The only air left in the loop when the noise started was a few micro-bubbles, nothing large went into the pump. What am I supposed to do? The noise is horrible- it sounds like the pump is going to die.

I feel your pain. The main reason I bought the db1s is b/c they were supposed to be DEAD silent... well they become dead silent eventually. Just gotta be more patient w/ it. Or design an awesome loop that can be 99% bled within X amount of hours you can tolerate the grinding noise =P

Shaking it / slaming it against petra's gel stuff temporarily removed the noise, but it eventually comes back.

Oh and try to open up your loop from time to time. I found this sort of helps as well (my loop was closed and it helped releave the pressure on the tubes / loop)

This one..not sure it's made it's way to the market yet though.

It's about 3X the pumping performance of the db-1/cpx-1.

I have the DD version and its is very loud with crackling noises until there is zero air left in the system. I found that shaking and gently tapping the pump while its making the sound will get the air out of the pump quicker but it will just come back until the system is fully bled.
