So my friend (who's also an extreme overclocker) and I were talking a moment ago, and I was informing him of my new cooling system (which you guys helped me pick out, hence it rockz) and he tells me that I should be ready to kiss my system goodbye. He said that with water cooling, here in louisiana, it becomes too cold and cause condensation to form. I told him that couldn't be an issue, because that only happens with TECs and phasechange, and he swears up and down at 15c here, condensation will form and ruin my rig.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, because even though we have mass ammounts of humidity here in a sub-tropical climate, I don't think my rig can get any colder than ambiet temps which shouldn't cause condensation. Any thoughts?

condensation forms when temps are below dew point as long as the ambient is just as cold you should have no problems. i mean your its not like your liquid will be cooler then your ambient anyways. unless your rad is outside in the snow... as long as your room isnt super hot and your water is super cold you should have condensation

dew point has to do with humidity, dew is condensed water and when it gets warm enough the vapors become liquid which is condensation.

i might be off somewhere but i hope that helps

in short youll probably have no problems with condensation

With a high enough humidity, low enough ambient temp (causing water temp to drop), and hot enough case, I guess it is possible. As long as you have case fans, the temp. difference between case and water shouldn't be that different.

Thanks, thats what I thought. I could only see condensation happening with a TEC or a Phase Change device, although it is outrageously humid over here. Ambiet temps though, not a chance, and water doesn't really even run at that when your cooling a cpu and a vid card. Eh, I'm guessing he's reading the wrong forums. He told me about some over clocker forums he reads which told him that, I'm guessing they were talking about water cooling with a TEC added on.

It could have been someone who didn't have case fans. If the ambient in the case (which is the temp that would be considered 'condensation ambient') was hot enough, and there was an external Rad which had room ambient temps, the difference could have been enough to cause condensation on the 'other forums guys' PC.

As long as the ambient in the case is close to the ambient in the room, there shouldn't be any problems.

I hate living in one of the worst states for humidity.....Sad things is I'm moving to Florida which isn't much better.....

I forwarded all this to him, maybe I can turn him into a water cooling junkie as well. I must say, I'll never go back to a fan-heatsink

I hear ya on the humidity, it's a :banana::banana::banana::banana: here too. I've been water cooling for about a year now, and tried lots of different rad designs and have not once seen any form of condensation.
