I bought a 32 piece rotary toolkit for $9.99 a few days ago and I was looking for something to destroy and came upon this RAM cooler that I bought almost a year ago. I stopped using it as it bugged me how restrictive the grill was so I decided it needed experimenting on.

This is my first time using this type of tool so critique it as such :p:

I ground down all the edges despite how they look, now all I need are new 60x10 fans since I broke one of the stock fans trying to remove the bling.

rams actually do not need fans to cool down .. with just the copper/alu plates .. it's already adequate
having this cooling ... is just for the bling bling factor ...

seriously ... vandalize it for more airflow .. u could just get those alu sheets from dumpster to work with it

Have you ever touched RAM at 2.2V+ under load without active cooling?

yeah ... i got a nasty burn that time
but passive cooling will just do their job fine, having additional active cooling doesnt benefit except 'touchable hot ram"?

Well I mean, if its hot enough to burn you i'd imagine thats not a great idea.... Probably do it for ease of mind if nothing else.

But if hot air just sits between the RAM modules, it's going to run hotter than if it had air moving throughout.

That's the coolest waterbox I've ever seen.

Agreed.

Very nice watercooling indeed

Ram cooling, 2x60mm fans.
Now when I touch the heastpreaders they are just a little warm.
Leaving them without active cooling is a risk.

with passive cooling, you dont need a fan. but i think if you did blow some air on it, the modules will last longer since heat always kills things right?

I use a rubber band to hold an 80mm fan over my 4x1GB.

They run 890mhz @ 5-5-5-20 2.3v 24/7... and are almost hot even with the fan.

No they are not crappy micron lol.

EDIT - And passively cooled ram is just asking for trouble btw.

that's your imagination .. but in fact most of the overclockers in this forum didnt use active ram cooling .. try ask around

chances to have your ram busted is soooo low, till manufacturers can afford to provide lifetime guarantee ..

well the rest is your thoughts
