Don't they come with a thermal pad on them that is a double sided tape for mounting them on the mosfets?

Ceramique or MX2 (or similar non-conductive, non-capactive, non-permanent TIM)

I... umm.. wont be using them the 'standard way' ;) :D

they come with push pins, but those are getting chopped off :D

will the thermal tape be enought o hold them in place by itself?

cheers

Yes thermal tape is plenty strong. Thermal tape that comes one RAM sinks for GPU coolers is strong enough to pull the chip off the board if your not careful when removing them.

There are some who have claimed that there RAM sinks have fallen off there cards. With a year of heavy use on my 7900GS i haven't had that problem. My guess is those people didn't clean the surface of the chips before applying the sinks. a bit of rubbing alcohol and a q-tip is all you need to clean the surface.

yeah, I have a couple cards with ram sinks on 'em.. never cleaned the chips admittedly (didnt even think about it :D )
but none have fallen off

ram sinks is one thing - so long as the TR mosfet coolers wont fall off :D

Thermal tape isn't the best for heat transfer but it works better then nothing.

It really doesn't matter what you use. Be it the plain old ceramic white stuff or AS5. Just be very careful with how much you use. You don't want it getting all over everything and shorting something out. Just spread it over the cooler and use a razor to scrape it down to a nice thin layer.

cool, thanks!

yeah I was a wee bit concerned as I saw some stuff @ PPCs that was aluminium based, so I thought that might be a tad dangerous, seeing as alu can conduct.. the 3M stuff is ceramic based - shouldnt conduct (?) :)

TR mosfet cooler push pins aren't attached to the coolers so you can just slide them off, no need for your skill in cutting things up.

thermal tape isn't permanent, you can take them off quickly if you twist the ramsinks. Arctic Silver 5 Adhesive A+B is permanent.

Yeah cheers don't use the thermal pads that come with them. horrible stuff.

TR mosfet coolers maybe a little heavy for thermal tape, not too sure.

why not just get the enzotech mosfet sinks themselves since they come with the thermal tape already ?
