I'm getting ready to buy a 790i board and I'm sick of waiting for MSI. Any specials, coupon codes, deals for XS members? :D

Are you stuck on MSI or would you have interest in Evga 790i Ultra SLI instead, still factory Sealed (Brand New)

just wondering....

email is in heat.

Lol, the msi has me curious but I'm definately not stuck on a paper release. It's been on their website for over a month but no one stocks it. So far I like the slot layout better than anything I've seen, all those pci-e, very useful.

Ok XFX Tech, I did it anyway out of curiousity. XFX 790i should be in today. I'll try and get a few numbers up later.

hmmm... doa? Hangs on C3 post code even after trying a couple different known good ram sticks, 2 cpu's, and a couple long battery out cmos clear attempts. Looks like it's going back.

Did you try clearing CMOS and booting with one stick? With some memory you will have to manually set its voltage and timings. What memory did you get for the board?

Setup was done open air on a workbench, psu used is corsair tx750. All attempts were with one stick. The 2 kits I own are ocz flex xlc 1gb sticks, and gskill hz 2gb sticks. I didn't buy any mem specifically for the board. Unfortunately I never got to see a post or bios screen to adjust timings or voltages. It always halted on C3 and would go no further except on a couple of resets it did go on and halt at post code 11 which the manual describes as reserved? At any rate the board has gone back after a day and a half of cpu, ram, and vid card swaps, all known working components.

Unfortunate...

Unfortunate...HeHe... not to worry, I'm a patient man. Optimistic too :D I'm sure the replacement will be great. I've been following this release quite closely from the start and with the new P05 bios I have great confidence that the 790i will be even more fun than my 780i.

The replacement board is working fine. Nice clocker, a bit hot on the chipset but very stable at 500fsb and 8.5 multi (4250) with an e8400 on air.

Nice to see things worked out for you. Nice clocks as well.
