[HELP] Efficient / Proper Harddrive testing?

Hello my X-perts, i wished to ask you before i take on a small task.

i now have an ICH9R based mobo and various harddrives, to which i am going to get the best out of which i can, testing varies raid set up, using matrix raid..


software i know of for testing

HDTach
HDTune
IOMeter.


how many runs of each should i do to determine a suitable average? 3? more?

i plan to make a thread of my results, almost a poor mans raid thread, so all help is appreciated

I think a 3 is run avg. is good as long as the numbers are staying reasonably steady, otherwise you may decide on more. I used to like atto but I guess it's never used anymore.

cool, have been doing 3 and speeds seem normal, amazing what intel ICH9 can do with 2 x 80G 7200.10 drives, went from about 60MB to 140, don't know how, but ya

It's a decent onboard controller. I use it on my x48 with a pair of 150 raptors raid0.
