I like the design of the airflow (without the bottom rad).
I just don't see the reasoning for 2 rads in 1 system unless you have 2 seperate watercooling setups in the same case, which would mean 2 pumps, 2 res's etc etc.
Doesn't adding another radiator change the flow of the water aswell, especially with the flow going from the top of the case to the bottom (and then having to go back up to the components).
But maybe I'm not thinking about this correctly
Be interesting if you could post the 15 cases you've built with this design to see exactly how it's all setup/working etc :)
when i say dual rad i mean 240> 2x120fan single radiator
not dual as in 2 seperate radiators...
i must have gave the wrong impression
please excuse my English ...
i think that now you can see that the airflow configuration illustrated before
involves only 1 radiator
the one placed at the bottom......
as for the prementioned WC cases
i don't keep worklogs for all the mods i do..
nor do i keep logs of temps and settings...
could you imagine doing that for every single customer???
i only take some pics for the most interesting ones...
i hope you'll recognize the configuration we are talking about
in the following cases
(sorry for double posting the same pics within two days but...)

cool :)
Soz I was mis-understanding, I looked at the pictures on the above post with the rad on the top of the case which I really like as it means the hot air from the rad leaves the case instantly. (but I wrongly put the two ideas together)
Cool paint jobs on those cases hehe :)
I still don't get the idea of putting a rad at the bottom of the case when there's room at the top hehe :p: , altho I do see it would be easier in a stacker as there is room from the secondary psu spot. Still means there's hot/warm air going into the case.

the mesh isn't as see thru as proposed ? looks AWESOME in the drawn picture however, looks as tho one can see barely anything thru it (ie neons etc)
edit: my bad; i was looking at the ACRYAN website at their mesh; the mnpctech ones are a lot different however; wouldn't the larger holed mesh let more noise come out of the pc?
edit2: just noticed MNPCTECH is american? anyone know mod shops or places i can grab some of this stuff from in australia? (besides bunnings for paint/primer etc)

..i'm using Sketchup,Illustrator and Photoshop for the sketches...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/SlackerXL/tsunamiracing4.jpg
Excellent work on the sketches, would you be willing to share the "modules"?:)
With modules I mean the separate drawings/models for drives, rad, PSU, MB, wheels and so on...
I use UG, Pro engineer, CATIA and a few others and would love to have those modules for usage in my upcoming projects. It would not be too hard to convert them, I guess you have made them with proper measurements and so on..?

silly me...
i thought you were talking about the intake-exhaust air volume equilibrium
a dual rad does not warm that easily...
not even with a D955 on it
(provided you have a decent flow and an adequate pump for your setup)
so the air coming through it will not affect the system temp as much as you think
also, as you probably already know,
the air from the lower level (floor level) is always cooler and by warming it up
you force it to move upwards towards the exhaust fans...
i ve used this particular configuration in more than 15 cases the past few months
(most of them Stacker 830's without the side fan panel)
and the results were excellent despite the Greek summer temps :p:
the only thing you should do, is add two fan filters to the bottom fans because floor-level air intake tends to collect all the underlying dust
and reduces the rad's effectiveness really quick
There is a downside.. Dust, hair and other particles normally build up on the floor. They will be sucked up and will eventually clog the Rad. Which means a weekly/montlhy cleaning will be needed.
Anyways.. when I built up my case I opted for something different. What caught my eye was a VERY old Compaq Proliant 1500 server case. It housed a Pentium 100MHz with 128MB of ECC EDO memory and a total of 20GB of HD space in 5 seperate drives.. so yes.. quite old. It was also beige and disgusting looking.
http://www.ci.ru/inform2_97/p30_pic2.jpg
So I opted to try and turn it into a newish rig. Wasn't easy.. damn case was some oddity.. wasn't following any known specifications (not ATX, AT, baby ATX etc).

Its from page 29 but there was a disscustion about the orange vs yellow slots on the DFI Ultra-D.
Yellow slots "can" be fore BH-5 looks like the focus on which slots to use are totally dependant on your bios, there are many diffrent revisions for each bios and each one has a diffrent focus on ram.
I have the stock bios on my mobo and use the yellow slots and it works perfect with my setup, had my OCZ Platinum 1:1 DDR600 stable with tight timings on my opteron 146, and I currently run my Mushkin DDR500 at DDR515 totally stable both were in the yellow slots.
I never updated to a newer bios as the saying goes "if it aint broke dont fix it"
I have more pictures on my home PC of my rig, but now that I am at work I can only share some of the ones I had uploaded in the past.
Bear with the bad photo quality, my camera died on me.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a177/ViciousXUSMC/fananddragon.jpg
More may be uploaded later inluding the 120mm fan on the top of the case that I moded in. I didnt take any pictures of when I had to mod the case for my psu as I was in a hurry to get it up and running and it was the last thing on my mind.
You can kinda see the many phases the computer went thru when I swiched out the psu and things, I dont even have a photo of the final product when I had got all the wires put away, you dont see any wires now except the fan I have near the pwm ic's and the black lights. All the psu wires are behind the hdd cage and hidden away looks nice and neat.
Just recently added the x-fi in there and its offically a FULL case the pump barly fits at an angle between the sound card and the hdd cage, while the video card is just above it. I love the case to death with its price and options but next time I may get somthing bigger.
I am very happy to say the case is finally done. The only thing left to do is prop it up off the ground, maybe put it on wheels, not sure yet.

Looks really nice. Loved the color scheme.
Question: Does that fan cover/filter thingy restrict air flow? If not, where can I get those?
thanks

Nope, works great :). It really does filter dust too, after a few days you can wipe your hand over it and a crap load of dust comes off.
Performance-pcs.com has them. FilterRight I think makes them. :)

Anarchy,
Great case, it looks like your running 1/2" ID lines? If so where the heck did you find all those quick-connect fittings? I'm also using all 1/2" ID tubing but have yet to find any decent fittings like yours for anything larger than 1/4" or 3/8" ID? By the way where is your radiator? I take it it's mounted on the back of case or mounted outside case separelty? Thanks for all the info, much apprecaited!
To get the Silver color scheme just right click on the desktop and click on properties. Then go to the appearance tab, under that tab go down to Color Scheme and click on Silver, I think it looks much better than default WinXP colors.

Anyone want to donate about $650 for an awesome watercooling system and case for me? :p:
Or how about $300, to just put some more a little more basic watercooling in my current case :D
When I do finally get the funds to get this watercooling loop and case I want - heck or even if I get enough to watercool what I've got now - I'll definitely post pics here. Though I don't think I can compete with some of these masters. You guys are great, give me inspiration and a reason to spend money I don't have :D
That's a compliment BTW, it usually takes quite a bit to make me spend money I don't have ;)
In the meantime, once I get some better wire management done I'll snap a few pics of my current system as it stands air-cooled. Right now it is a little sloppy inside ever since removed the HD rack and rubbermounted the drive in a 5.25" bay.
BTW, the case I want to watercool is a secret, I'm not telling cuz I want to be the first to do it :D

I thought of it - but nah, it's a very hard job to do and besides I personally like the look of raw wood; it's kinda unique when it comes to pc-cases :) The only things I might paint are the two 5.25" -> 3.5" converters of the floppydrive and fancontroller. I'd either paint them totally black or aluminium, so it matches.

You are going to put a clear finish or rub in some oil or something at least aren't you? It'll get grubby very quickly otherwise.
It really doesn't look 'finished' without a suitable finish. ;)

Is your 120mm up front getting ready for WC or providing more air into the case?
You got some cable management to do there, eh ;)

Just more air. The Conroe build I'm working on is an entirely different setup that will be liquid-cooled. The front Sunon you see in that pic has an airflow rating of 84cfm and helps keep my X2 idle @ 29c.
I'm afraid the cables are about as good as they're going to get unless you have any ideas that exclude stuffing them behind the motherboard. There's no room behind it in this case, and the PSU I'm using isn't modular. I also have 3 case fans.

Bummer re cable management. What if you cut some holes/slots in the MB tray, you can't lie the cables flat? Anyway, I understand.
My old (and original self-built) PC suffered a lot too. As much as I tried I couldn't get it much better. Particularly hard given there were 4 HDs, 2 CDROMS, a few PCI cards and a mid tower case ;).
GAMbox (SkyHawk Aluminium Case-pics 2yrs old and first ever mods):

I've since gotten rid of the 'stealthed 5.25" drives' as I don't do a very good job (velcro only) and they'd catch from time to time. I've improved cable management since, somewhat . When I did all the cable tying and arranging, I felt pretty about it. Expectations have changed since then ;). Will have to pull out a recent pic.

There's just no room behind the motherboard tray to stuff the cables. The space is that thin. I can't even lay them flat, because I can't re-attach the other side of my case. I'll keep thinking and see if I can come up with something.
Another nice case you have there. I like that design on the side window a lot.

There is more to BTX than that actually. The layout of the mobo is a little different as well. What he has is just an inverted BTX or, if you like, BTX wannabe :p:

@GAM
do you mean the small fan behind the HDD-before the board? (of asus?)
Yeah I think so. I just had another look at a different pic and realised it is open at the back and I guess blowing air over your sound card? When I first looked at it, and thinking that blower fans like that usually blow air out sideways, perpendicular to the fans rotation, I was confused. :)
Blackpitty
11-22-2006, 01:06 PM
That is a radial fan, blows laterally out. air blows exactly against the cooler under the graphic card on the board.

Well there are actually 2 silenx fan types out there. What we have in the states is this:
http://www.silenxusa.com/productcart/pc/catalog/sx_fan_12025.jpg
Taken from silenxusa.com. It looks like a basic 120mm fan and people have said they aren't as quiet as they say.
Now look at this:
http://www.silenx.com/ixp-74-front-large.jpg
Taken from silenx.com. Same company, but at silenx.com there is no USA link, and those fans cannot be found here in the USA. They are definitely designed differently though, with more of a forward sweep in the blades, a smaller motor, and it looks like maybe a little more of an aggressive angle to the blades. While there isn't anything certain as to how the two compare it is entirely possible that the ones we are stuck with in the USA are louder than the ones outside of the USA. *CORRECTION* Ananvel0 pointed out they can be had at frozenCPU.com.
Just something that someone in the aircooling section pointed out.
Now I don't want this to turn into a discussion on how crappy silenx may or may not be, I just thought I'd throw this out there for some to think about. I am in no way advocating using silenx fans, I think they are too pricey ;)

yeah the 200mm fan on top moves 134cfm of air so the temps are better this way.

Well, with the holidays over and that got me my last stuf for this rig, here are my pics.
Thermaltake Armor, 3 * 120mm fans, 2 * 92mm fans. 4 UV CCFL's, UV reactive cables. And best thing is, some parts of my DS4 seem to light up with UV light.

Yeah, those 2 musketeers are nothing but eyecandy, but I'm a sucker for analog gauges. Took me 3 months to get that Musketeer 1 in black. Proud of my rig.
Except the stock cooler, the Scythe Ninja doesn't like my CPU (unequal IHS problem) but a Arctic Freezer Pro is on the way and should tackle that problem.

if i would have water cooling and not so many cables i would buy a side panel with window
but i have tons of usb cables, fireware, etc.. which i actually use and they are very hard to hide :(
so until water cooling i like keep everything hidden , and the uv lights to be seen only a bit..
my camera is crap.. so you cant see how really looks :)

Well, if you mean me, here we go:
And, I know some of you will chuckle about the Coolit, but it works quite well. I replaced a DangerDen loop I was using and it is actually working just as well. Of course, I modified it with a 120 mm fan and removed the stock 92 mm. I also bypassed all the automated items and tuned the pump settings, etc myself. So in quiet mode, at 3.2 GHz, which is where I game with it, it idles around 32C. Crank up the fan, and the temps drop a bit to around 28C.

Yeah, I've been meaning to place some black electrical tape over that purple light. It's actually on the motherboard under the "ASUS" logo.
But then I'm swapping out this mobo anyway for a P5N-E SLI real soon.
