Vandi423, any reason why you use a fan only on one cpu?

Silence....

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9176/afteridle4me.gif

I am working on a thread where I explain everything. As you can see the other CPU doesn't need a fan. Adding a second fan would only disrupt my planned air flow.

anyways that looks sick. I'm not much of a fan of lights, etc but the UV looks great.

That is a great idea with that plexi shroud. And great temps for a 6800, that is semi-passive. How are load temps? With my old 6800 using a VF700Cu I idled in the low 50s.

that case really looks good vandi. how did you make the heatsink glow green?

Vandi423
01-24-2006, 11:00 PM
lowfat - the UV in the pics looks much brighter than it does in person. I didn't want it to be too bright because I certainly would not like that. It’s a nice warm glow. :D GPU gets up to 65C on a full load in a warm room. Temps could be even better with a thinner base and heatsink made out of copper. But this was an old A64 HSF.

MaxxxRacer - haha your chipset mod made want to do this. Thanks for posting what you did! :toast: It finally solved my heat and noise problems. That stock cooler was killing me!!!!!

skane - UV paint applied only to the tips of the fins. It looks better in person because it has a pattern to it. I just couldn't get a good picture of it. I applied the paint with a semi-dry Q-tip so makes it look weird like it’s not painted.

lol, yep. we're going to put it into our office, where incoming visitors can use it to simply browse the internet and use microsoft word to print out quick documents. we had 4g's to waste, so we just went ahead and built that for the hell of it.

in fact, when we are done soon, we're planning to chuck the system into a raging fire, and submit a video-clip to ebaumsworld and other humor sites alike... :D

/sarcasm

hehe, its actually going to be used as a server, and most likely, it's also going to be doing some crunch work.

Vandi, that case is awesome! It takes skill to pull the UV look off right. Did you paint the edges of the heatsink with UV paint?

I just rewiered my case. Its nothing compared to any of the stuf here but here is before:

Sorry for the bad pictures I suck at photography.

My temps went waaaay down, from 37 idle down to 31, dipping down to 28 sometimes. Not sure if its too acurate though because my PWMIC went from 43 to 33.

I also noticed that when I put it on top of my desk the temps went up 2 C, is that normal?

Oh and I dont have a fan on my VX because I'm still running it stock volts.

CABLE MANAGEMENT. They need to teach a class or something. It's not that hard. It might be a nice and new system but with poor cable management, it just looks like crap. My opinion.

Cutting those stamped fan-grills helps bring the case temp. down some, and it cuts down on the noise as well. :D I've done that to my case (TT Tsunami) and it lowered the case temp 2c and also reduced the "whoosh" noise you get from the air going through the mesh.

I was just checking out the mods and there is some nice work posted up in here. You know all out speed has it's place. All my current sytems run at over 4000mhz my main system runs 4400 everyday just like clock work. But the real thrill was modding a case that fit my needs. It sits on my desk right off to my side where i can appreciate it the most. I believe in using a roomy but very basic case. I am not interested in whether it has good air flow characteristics. I'll take care of all those issues. I just needed a casae big enough to fill my needs. I'll take it from there!!
Enermax CS-181-B nice size. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/1.jpg Very basic, Motherboard tray ran the whiole length of the case. Yuck!! Not when I got done. Now it is removable But, only cuz I cut it all to pieces!!

Jebus, a compliment from TheDude. Thank you very much man. I mean that very seriously.

If no one minds me elaborating a lil bit. I'm really happy with the Matrix Orbital and the LED Indicator Buss. They deliver a lot of information.

Silverstone TJ-067 Info here: http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-tj06.htm
*Removed front fan filter
*Replaced CoolerMaster fans with ThermalTake Smart Fans
*Rear fan holder rotated 90 degrees as it was necessary to mount Von Karajan module without hitting the fan.
*Added handles to the top. This is a steel case with Aluminum front panel.
*Sleeved and wire tied all visible wires. I hid the rest of them.

*Made Custom Flat Cable for Floppy Connection on Venus motherboard
*Changed DFI Stock chipset fan to Evercool VC-RE chipset fan TWICE (1st one D.O.A.)
Info here: http://www.bigbruin.com/html/evercool-vcre.htm
*Added 2x80mm Antec 80mm fans under HDD cage in brushed aluminum housing (I’m trying to keep One (1) Terabyte of storage cool)
*Ran all wires and connectors under the motherboard
*Spent hours on cable management (it was probably more like days)

*Vantec Silver Fan Buss in 5.25” Bay to control 80mm and 120mm front intakes, rear 120mm exhaust, and XP-90 heatsink fan. I chose this model cause it only changes the voltage from 7V to 12v. Means I don't have to worry about other hands on the knobs. All of the fans are Thermaltake A201X series smart fans with Blue LEDs –
Info here: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/2005/...d/bluesmart.htm
(Note: I’ll be modding a Silverstone blank panel as the Vantec writing bugs me.)
*Matrix Orbital MX421 and customized LCDC software (Reprogrammed completely) Info here: http://www.matrixorbital.com and here www.lcdc.cc
*Dallas One-wire Thermal Probes (Accurate to within 0.5 degrees C)
pdf here: http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/DS18S20.pdf
Examples of the Matrix Orbital’s display capabilities can be seen here:
http://www.uploadit.org/gallery/13039

*Custom STATUS LEDs on front panel – (They are multi-mode and work in conjunction with the MX421) How do they work? When rig is powered ON as follows:

LED1 Status
OFF/Connected to Internet
ON/Disconnected from Internet
FLASH/Chipset Fan not running
STROBE/CPU Fan not running
ON/STROBE/OFF (sequential) A voltage rail has dropped more than 1%)

LED 2 Status
OFF/CPU Temp below 35C
ON/Temp above 35C
FLASH/CPU Temp above 40C
STROBE/CPU Temp above 45C
ON/STROBE/OFF (sequential) Temp above 50C

LED 3 Status
OFF/GPU Temp below 45C
ON/GPU Temp above 45C
FLASH/GPU Temp above 50C
STROBE/GPU Temp above 55C
ON/STROBE/OFF (sequential) GPU Temp above 60C
These are High Output 5mm Blue LED in a chrome housing so they literally throw a laser like beam of light onto the wall across the room. Pretty hard to miss even sitting off axis.

*Dallas One-wire Thermal probes (one on Memory and one on Raptor with Chomerics T414 Thermal Tape) All information on the Matrix Orbital MX421is also displayed on the “Virtual Display” on one of the monitors.
*6.5” Farenheit LCD Internal display as second monitor
http://camerasandelectronics.com/it...tem=fart6502hrs
*15” Panasonic LCD EDTV for 3rd Monitor (Component In and TV).
Info here: http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/panasonic-...ic-tc15lt1.html

Voltage and temps are all read by a custom MBM5 config for DFI boards.

Old Full Tower, but all 80mm fans.. can't have that can we?

now 92, 120 & 172x151mm fans, hate the buttons, so I'm putting a Bulgin, and moving the LED's.
First pic is original, but Sprayed black.

Yep, that's the one, but non-illuminated (Don't want too many lights on this one), but may swap an Illuminated one in, depends on the looks when I'm done with the Fascia...

The big fan is not as loud as you would expect, but the Startup whine (Changes pitch, sounds like an Industrial belt sander starting up, but in reverse), is bloody amazing... n00bs sh1t when they hear it, now I'll have to looks to go with it:D

The fan is meant to run at 24v 235CFM, but is about 125CFM@12v... but the 235CFM 12v version is the same chassis if I get bored of this...:D

waiting for milliput ( http://www.milliput.co.uk/home.htm ) to dry around the big fan, jet turbine type intake.. off to Model shop tomorrow to try to get a Nose-Cone for it... also filling in the line you cab see across the entire case, as well the holes by the Bulgin, don't like them there.

Nick,

That's what I thought at first too! But there are actually some slight differences between the PC-65B and the PC-6070B. The most prominent being the top lid has a slightly longer lip on the 6070. I wanted to buy a replacement top just in case, and ran into all these issues with the widely available PC-65B top. The side panels are all the same though but the 6070 also has the door mechanism which is used on the Voodoo case as well.

AFAIK, you can only get one from Voodoo... Included is a mobo, cpu, gpu, HDD, XP, etc. :D I bought mine used from a forum member over there and I have seen them on eBay once I think. That case is actually discontinued now, they now use a modified LL1000B I think, called the MAGA case, which is the case used for their entire "Omen" line.

Nice cable management Gak. I plan on doing better with mine when I buy my next psu. I may get the silencer 610 instead of the 1 kilowatt I have listed on my wish list in my sig. Either that or hope that zippy starts shipping the G1 series of psu's to North America.

do u feel like doing some more serious modding?

first of all
ditch the acrylic side panel and use some honeycomb mesh instead

you can totally change it looks by painting the interior black

the exterior would look nice in an orange (metallic maybe) paintjob...

add a set of wheels and two billet handles (the Mnpctech ones are excellent)

make two 120mm holes and you've got yourself a dual rad fixation on the top (for future upgrades)
with an ACryan dual grill for the looks
and a pair of Akasa Amber 120mm fans

and you're good to go...

if you can spare the two top 5,25 bays
you can use a dual rad,
as long as you'll use 3/8'' tubes
in order to be able to make the necessary routing

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/SlackerXL/tsunamiracing4.jpg

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/SlackerXL/tsunamiracing5.jpg

if you don't plan to use more than two hdd's
you could also remove the hdd rack and reserve the space for a pump
while adding the rad and fans on the bottom
and moving your disks in two spare 5,25 bays

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/SlackerXL/tsunamiracing6.jpg

ppl please keep in mind that those are just rough sketches
and not some sort of Tsunami modding guide...

looking at the above picture did u design or intend for the front fan to be intake, the air blows across then is blow up the gfx and blow across over the HDDs and exhausted thru the top?
if it were done like that all but the double fans at the top would be intake
would something like that work?
AND equilibrium; nice job u've done, i took a look at ur project log :D

the orientation of the fans in the previous sketch was not intented
i just threw the fans...in the case :p:
i think that the optimal airflow could be achieved with a layout similar to the one below

Blowing hot air in from the bottom?

Will that not lead to more hot air in the case rather than cooling things down?

silly me...
i thought you were talking about the intake-exhaust air volume equilibrium

Will the bottom rad not be getting hot?

a dual rad does not warm that easily...
not even with a D955 on it
(provided you have a decent flow and an adequate pump for your setup)

so the air coming through it will not affect the system temp as much as you think

also, as you probably already know,
the air from the lower level (floor level) is always cooler and by warming it up
you force it to move upwards towards the exhaust fans...

i ve used this particular configuration in more than 15 cases the past few months
(most of them Stacker 830's without the side fan panel)
and the results were excellent despite the Greek summer temps :p:
the only thing you should do, is add two fan filters to the bottom fans because floor-level air intake tends to collect all the underlying dust
and reduces the rad's effectiveness really quick

I like the design of the airflow (without the bottom rad).

I just don't see the reasoning for 2 rads in 1 system unless you have 2 seperate watercooling setups in the same case, which would mean 2 pumps, 2 res's etc etc.

Doesn't adding another radiator change the flow of the water aswell, especially with the flow going from the top of the case to the bottom (and then having to go back up to the components).

But maybe I'm not thinking about this correctly

Be interesting if you could post the 15 cases you've built with this design to see exactly how it's all setup/working etc :)
