i'm deciding between these two mobos, and which would be best for a OC'ed e8500?

DFI lanparty DK P35-T2RS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136043)

asus P5K Deluxe/WIFI-AP (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131182)

The DK line from DFI replaced the Infinity series. They have less BIOS options and the boards aren't built quite like actual LanParty boards... fewer phases in the PWM, analog PWM, non-solid capacitors. Overall, still a good board.

A friend of mine recently picked up a used (for a week) P5K Deluxe WIFI for $75 after some some research. Research say that the board suffers from ASUS's nasty double boot/non-cold boot problems and there is no fix on the horizon. Solid OC board though.

Can't go wrong with either. Having owned nothing but my sole DFI, I would say DFI. Both are solid choices though.

Yeah both are good choices, mostly any P35 are good enough to OC without worrying about too much stuff. As for OCing... The DFI has a ton of bios options for you to play/tweak with so expect to play around with settings before running the computer at a solid OC. Its not a set and go like most of the other boards. The only thing I like about ASUS boards are the wifi ap/dual ethernet and it has two pci-e for dual cards unlike the DK having only one pci-e.

The DK may have fewer phases in the PWM (4 to be exact) though they are digital and backed by 16 Mosfits. The bios is very similar to the LP/UT T2R only missing a few options but nothing that will hinder your performance/ocing.

I would look at the things that you will benefit from such as features from each board. I personally bought the T2RS when it first came out and its been running solid for me and I've had bad experiences with ASUS boards in the past and bios support. So my vote goes for DFI, others may think otherwise but the decision is solely yours :).

i did a research 2 about P5K-E and this DFI and eventualy i took the DFI, the things you need to think about is if you need the tons of the features(like wifi...) the asus got, or you want the cool design and tons of OC/tweak options that the dfi has... both can overclock much or more the same(maybe the dfi can go a bit higher) i saw asus can give less Voltage to DIMM's(2.55v compared to 3.08 that the dfi gives) and few other things...
i also think the asus bios is kinda mess..(i think...)

if you want a overclocking board with none of the extra stuff, then go with the DK P35.

I've had the DFI, perfect board, no glitches EVER... but I ditched it because I went for SLI... but for single videocard purposes I would still definitely recommend it, and the price is perfect

so most people go for DFI over asus now huh?

newb questions: how does the number of phases matter? better voltage/power regulation? what is the PWM how does it differ from mosfets?
