I'm starting this thread to try and convince MB manufacturers that there is real market for high performance mATX boards.
for example: portable gaming or a space limited gamer, also many HT boxes use mATX form factors and many of those are used for large screen gaming... you get the picture
Add to that, many case manufacturers make mATX cases with cooling on par with the big machines
also, feel free to discuss the topic below
I'm sure they would be popular but I don't believe the problem is the motherboards. I believe the problem to be the oversized graphics cards of late. No matter how small you get the mobo, when you get an 8800GTX or a 3870X2 it's going to need a big case...

It's True most mATX cases wouldn't fit an X2 graphic card (I have a mini P180 and i can till you it fits!!), But most high performance mainstream cards would fit for example: 8800GT, 3870 and those cards are what most gamers are actually buying!!

I think yes. If its not an multi video card board there is no need for ATX size. Alot of people doesnt use even half of the expansion slots.
When can we expect the DFI boards? 2009?. m-ATX is interesting and more challenging to build around.

m-atx daul-vga for lesser-powered, smaller cards(single-slot), and room for a soundcard, and I'm sold.
The only problem is that smaller obards usually need to have less included stuff, or an extra couple of layers, in order to be superb clockers.
