Woot! My G92 might actually get some use, I haven't really played that many games on it...

Could be pretty cool - I have 6 Nvidia GPU in one of the nodes in my cluster going mostly unused. I run ray tracers on them, but not all the time!

Eeeeexcellent (evil Burns-style).

Yep. I just crossed over from ATi to NVIDIA. Hope they get a REAL GPU client. ;)

Awesome indeed! Did you all check this? (the tip is in the news thread, I thought I repost it here, hope that's not wrong)
Try this

I recently got a PS3, And of course, Got it folding for none other then XS. Now, While my main PC's CPU will always be running WCG, My G92 is sure to get some F@H action once this client is out.
EDIT:
WOW!!!

I'm confused. I read this on Stanford's site:
What about video cards with other (non-ATI) chipsets?
The R580 (in the X1900XT, etc.) performs particularly well for molecular dynamics, due to its 48 pixel shaders. Currently, other cards (such as those from nVidia and other ATI cards) do not perform well enough for our calculations as they have fewer pixel shaders. Also, nVidia cards in general have some technical limitations beyond the number of pixel shaders that makes them perform poorly in our calculations.
What was the breakthrough?

You're referencing a quote from 3years ago :)
All cards now have unified shaders and NVIDIA brought out the CUDA platform. There wasn't a reason not to use the big pool of green fans.

Maybe I'm wrong but I have always thought that it was nVidia and CUDA which held back their assistance for a f@h porting.

2 years, don't make my card older than it really is :p:
X1900 series came out beginning 2006.

LOL those graphics where their product is a million times better than the competition are always hilarious. Lets see if there is any truth to that

I wonder how long is the "Coming soon" part:rolleyes:
It was 6 month for the ATI gpu2 client:yepp:
Should be interesting to see who has more "folding" muscle.
Definitely good news for everyone, except some parents wondering why their electric bill suddenly went up.;)

angra, which raytracers do you use on the GPUs ?

Custom - I write software exploiting GPUs as part of my research.

i see...
so without any optimized software there`s no way (yet) to accellerate normal raytracing software ?

Well, my raytracers are not for graphics :), so I am not an expert. My understanding, though, is that what you said above is currently correct.

That must have happened when Nvidia realized
there is a marketing opportunity. Just the green
logos alone, waiving on thousands of screens worldwide........yummy
To be honest I always wondered why there was a certain "lack of interest" from both of them (ATI & Nvidia).
Imagine all the kids now telling their parents
they need a GeForce/Radeon XXXX costing $$$$
for their "school science project".:ROTF:
Don't think Nvidia or DAAMIT would really mind;)

Here's the official announcement:
GPU1 client retired, GPU2 nearing open beta (http://folding.typepad.com/news/2008/06/gpu1-has-been-retired-gpu2-for-nvidia-release-nearing.html)
This should reallly help our team and the project as a whole. Look how many of us are Nvidia users!!

I might even be able to run 3850 and 8800gt side by
side, that would be something:clap:

This should really help my PPD since running two normal clients along with my PS3 will be nothing compared to the ps3 and 8800gt.

Sweet, I totally cant wait... I need a boost over what I am running now, definitely.
