I know that SLI with two physical video cards currently only works on skulltrail and nvidia chipsets. But, what about the dual GPU cards, "GX2"? I have an X48 board. It looks like ATI is in for another round of ass whooping by nvidia (sorry, can't picture it any other way with current specs). If I can use GX2 cards on my X48 board, I will be wanting to pick up an nvidia GTX280GX2, when it comes out :yepp:

If not, I will have to settle for a 4870X2.

And you get the full benefit of SLI? If so thats great news. Can x38/x48 run a single PCIe x16 slot in x32 mode instead of dual x16? Also I heard that with PCIe 2.0 basically doubles the bandwidth, so that PCIe 2.0 x8 is the same as PCIe 1.0 x16, in terms of available bandwidth?

no it dosnt work that way, the pci-e2 uses a multiplier to double the speed of the buss, but the bus width is same so u wouldent see that big of a boost were 1 8x 2.0 = 1 16x 1.1, ideally it would but real world it isnt equal

but it will run fine and should be clock for clock with duel cards if not a little faster

Hmm... then what real world bandwidth increase does PCIe 2.0 have over 1.1?

bout biggest one i noticed, but gets little mention, is the ability to put more power to the card. otherwise its still sorta a gimmick like all the true 16x 16x SLI boards that came out when the 7950gx2 launched
