I was about to buy Vista Ultimate 64-bit and I was wondering what the difference between the systems builder's and the Retail edition are? I see that they system builders can only be installed on one computer. Does that mean that I could not format my HDD and reinstall windows?

No, you can reformat your hard drive and re-install windows as many times as you like. I've even transferred OEM or system builders licence to answer computer, just had to call M$.

they have the same licensing u just cannot transfer it to another user, look at getting the OEI -OEM it can be transfered to other users and is the same price

also u most likely dont want or need ulti,look at BIZ, its the same as ulti but without the crap like media center, bitlocker or dream scene that dont do anything and just clutter up the OS, but BIZ has the networking tools, full pc backup and pro kernel while being $40 cheaper

@zanzabar
what do you mean by "can be transferred to other users"?

and also, i heard that depending on if OEM or Retail, you may need to buy another copy if you switch mobos

it means that u can resell it, say u built a computer and want to sell it, with system builders its only able to be licensed to the builder , but oei u can sell the license with the pc

and that changeling motherboards is BS thats only with the upgrade version and no1 would buy that who can change a MB since its more than oei or system builders

Edit: Oh, good speed Zanz you beat me to it :p

I can assure you that I only buy OEM copies of Windows (not Vista yet, but XP and previous versions) and have not had any issues with adding in new hardware. Well, I should say, you have to re-activate but that's not really an issue.
