1) Just wondering how many people do this.

2) Is there a windows based flash tool for x800xx? I know there is such a thing. I just wonder where on can get it. I've looked and looked, but no joy.

I know one can do it with a floppy, but I didn't install one in my new system.

Yes, mostly back when SLi needed identical BIOS versions. Tried a pipeline unlock once on an old ATi but it bricked the card; c'est la vie.

As for a Windows based tool, not that I know of, but why are you messing around with a floppy? Make a bootable USB stick and run it off that.

I probably did it 100+ times, its quite simple. Make a bootable usb, and your off.

I've tried this, but the stick doesn't boot. Yes I can boot to it, but a underscore cursor just keeps flashing.

Using just about every method I can find on the net other than installing a floppy drive and transferring the files to the stick, in which case I would have the floppy drive installed...

I made the stick bootable using the HP Tool
I added the floppy files
I added windows system files from my c: drive

No joy...

You need to make sure your BIOS is configured properly to boot off a USB device. I have mine set as a USB HDD in bios, and set it as my primary boot device when i want to boot off it.

I'd like to save the file that's on it right now, and then mod it, then flash it back.

Well, I'm off to floppy land. Flashing isn't a problem, but getting a usb stick to boot to dos is. Maybe my mb just won't do it.

haven't put a new bios in my video card yet. but if it's possible to undervolt the gpu like a cpu, i might want to do it.
is there any chance of undervolting a say radeon 4850 (further) in order to lower idle consumption?

I don't know about ATI, but I would suspect you don't want to undervolt anything. Undervolting can make things hot just like overvolting can.

I've never tried flashing the BIOS of a GPU, but I've flashed my old nForce 680i's BIOS when I had it...

even worse trying to overclock in crossfire :ROTF:

easier to bios flash the bloody clocks than use the crap software interface :D
