I am re-installing Vista on my machine. I am using a vista Ultimate upgrade disk to do a clean install.

I am installing the OS onto two SAS drives in a RAID 0 array using an Adaptec 5405 controller. I have the drivers installed on a thumb drive and loaded them in the install.

Here is my problem. When the installation is at the "copying files" stage it goes from 0% to 100% in only about 1-2 seconds. This was my first clue something was wrong. It then continued extracting files and finished installing normally. The only thing that seemed odd was how fast it copied the files.

Now after the screen "windows is preparing to start for the first time" i only have a mouse on a black screen. Does anyone know what would cause this?

Thanks

Maybe post your specs? Need to see what all you got.

Sorry, I am used to overclock.net which has your system listed in your sig. Here is my setup, at least the important info:
CPU = Q6600 G0
RAM = 4 gig OCZ 1800 DDR3
MoBo = XFX 790i Ultra
SAS Controller = Adaptec 5405
SAS Drives = Fujitsu MAX3147RC (147gb 15,000 RPM's)

I had the SAME issue with it copying files, but it when it got to "Finishing Installation" it would blue screen, and then reboot...then tell me installation was bad.

My issue was a P35board, Raptor HD, and Vista 64. Changed the mobo and it was smooth.

Did you try the basics? Take "extra" stuff out of the case, make sure your disk is clean, cross-fingers, chant "please please please" while its installing?

I have two video cards in there with an SLI bridge right now. I am going to remove one of the video cards and remove the SAS controller and just see if it will install correctly on the 7,200 SATA drive.

I recently installed windows vista, but this time I did so by enabling AHCI in bios
as you know how AHCI leverages the capabilities of the discs SATA today, hot plug, NCQ, both the installation of view AHCI mode command with raid should be done from the outset that installs view, the only copy RAID AHCI files and a pen drive or floppy disk and when you enter the screen windows vista select load controller.
tells us that although not found anything, we chose to search ourselves as the driver passes with no drivers licences.

the difference between an installation of windows vista in AHCI mode vs IDE mode is really noticeable is the recommend to everyone.

on page intel find information about how to enable AHCI mode once we have seen already installed windows in IDE mode.

all this is useful as long as they have SATA DISK in IDE mode.

Serious problems can occur if improperly amending the Register through the registry editor or any other method. These problems may require that you reinstall the operating system. 1. Close all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box and press ENTER.
3. If you see the dialog User Account Control, click on Continue.
4. Look for the following subkey of the Register and click on it:
Hkey_local_machine \ system \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Msahci
5. In the right pane, click the mouse Start in the Name column and click Modify.
6. The table reports the value, type 0, and then click OK.

More
During the installation process of Windows Vista will disable storage controllers that are not used. This behavior accelerates the process of initiation of the operating system. When you change the boot drive to a driver who has been disabled, you must enable the new driver before changing the hardware configuration.

For example, suppose you install Windows Vista on a computer that contains a controller that uses the controller Pciide.sys. Then change the way sat by AHCI. Therefore, the unit now must load the driver Msahci.sys. However, should enable the driver Msahci.sys before making this change.

This problem only affects the boot drive. If the unit is not changing the boot, is not experiencing this problem.

AHCI provides several features for devices Sata. For example, the functionality of hot and connection of power management, as well as the characteristic of NCQ on disks that have the same funcionality. for learn more about the AHCI specification, visit the website at Intel:

Would the ability to enable AHCI be in my motherboard BIOS or in my SAS controller BIOS. I cannot seem to find it.
