I figured some people might be looking in this avenue.

NOTE: This is not a thread to bash or ask why choose a D.R.
This is a thread about sharing the best D.R. Deal and experiences.

Eurocom's (http://www.eurocom.com) EUROCOM D90xC PHANTOM-X
It is capable of using the latest LGA 775 Processors (including quad-core).
Uses DDR2 800
3x SATA 3.0GB/s 2.5" drives
up to 2x Nvidia Geforce Go 8800m GTX

It's a little on the pricey side, but it looks really powerful.

I used to be really interested in ASUS's C90, but this has much more potential (and is 2x the price).

I know this was just announced in the news section, but this thread is a little different.

Post what you guys are eyeing/ have.

I have and still use this DTR from its release date (Denmark/EU):

Dell - M170
Intel M780 (Dothan @ 2.266 GHz)
NVIDIA Go 7800 GTX (Go 6800 Ultra originally)
Samsung 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 DC
Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook
Hitachi 80 GB 7200 RPM
LG 17" 1920 * 1200 display

Now, it is mostly used by my girlfriend for her Sims 2 games and Internet games. But I still use it sometimes myself for various reasons.

If I had an extreme amount of money to burn, then I would personally buy this one:

NEXTCOMputing - NextDimension Evo HD
2 * Intel Xeon LV 5420 @ 2.5 GHz 12MB L2 (8 Yorkfield cores total)
NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GX2
? 16 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM QC
2 * ? SAS 146 GB, 10k RPM RAID0 (+LSI Logic 1068E RAID 0/1)
? 17" 1920 * 1200 display

It is here:
http://www.nextcomputing.com/products/ndevohd.php

It technically qualifies as a DTR hehe.

EDIT: But you need tens of thousand dollars...

Yes, dat is all :p:

No there is no mobile thing with such a display AFAIK, but it puzzles me that there aren't any such 'thing' - 20.1" DTR have been made, but only with 16x10 displays, which is kinda a step back in terms of resolution.

No matter what other companies releases, then the offerings from NEXTCOMputing will always be supirior - because of dual socket CPU + PCIe slot, and then there are the rest of the specs. At least, it has been so for the last 5 years or so. Then again, there are the price of these little extreme beasts, which makes any other max speced DTR appear "cheap".

Have a Dell 1710 with 7900 GTX Go, 4gb mem and 100/7200 HD.

Works very, very well. Sad part is my better half has decided she wants it, so I'm shopping for a new one. The desktop gets used, but less and less.

I looked at the Phantom model in the original post, and there are some things you should think about before pulling the trigger on that model.

Heat kills. We know this in XS because we are always trying to find ways to reduce it to get more out of our systems. Hot notebooks die. Not always, and not always within warranty, but heat kills them faster. Its worth waiting for some reviews to verify just how hot the thing gets. If they can control the heat, then it will be a plus for this new design.

A quad core true notebook cpu is due out early in Q3 (Jul-Sep). This should be about 2.53 if the rumours are correct and, being and extreme model, might just OC when you are connected to the wall. 2.8 - 3.06 as an OC would be plenty. There was also talk last year by Intel about how some of the cores in their mobile quad core would be able to clock some cores higher than the rest under load, essentially perhaps running half the chip at a higher clock, while downclocking the lower used side. That's not confirmed, but worth considering if it does come true.

The Montevina platform, which is going to support this quad core mobile is coming in June and is likely to support DDR3 @ 1066 for a notebook. That would, in essence, give it a higher bandwidth than the above platform.

The last thing is that the NV 280/260 are going to spawn 55nm variants, which the rumour mill points to possibly going into a mobile variant. IMO, it's worth waiting till at least you can see the abilities of the mobile quad core and buy one of those, and then see if the NV cpu hasn't also been upgraded by then. If not, a 8800M gtx in SLI isn't a bad option at all. It's just worth bearing in mind, because even Alienware was showing off "compatibility" with some mysterious 9800M chip, but no details came of that.

Ok, the final, final thing is that the Phantom model is made by Clevo, which also supplies Voodoo, Alienware and others. As soon as that model gets into the hands of more resellers, the pricing will get more reasonable. I'm suspecting that some of them don't have the model yet, because they may be testing or eyeing this new mobile quad core system.

I don't recommend waiting long, but a few more months, and the benefit of some hands on reviews maybe, would be very helpful before laying out that kind of $$$.
