Super Talent Project X 2GB DDR3 2000 9-9-9-28

Super Talent recently offered me a chance to play with the newest addition to their Project X lineup of DDR3 and I thought you guys may be interested in the results from this sub-$300 set of memory. Let's first start off with the official specs on the kit:

*A few notes regarding testing:

- I used my 790 board since it was what Super Talent had done their testing with. This presented a few of HUGE problems:
1. OS boot corruption occurred EVERY time I tried to boot with the memory set higher than 2050. That's why you'll notice the highest memory speed benchable was 1025. It didn't matter what CL, or voltage, or what FSB. As soon as I set >2050 memory from BIOS, my file system corrupts. I had to re-install windows 6 times before I figured this out. :rolleyes:
2. CL6 testing resulted in another type of corruption in windows. Anything beyond ~1600 CL6 caused the OS to lock me out of accessing my HDD. Every time I tried to save anything to my HDD or even browse it, my computer would BSOD. I ended up having to run my picture program from a flash drive in order to save the screenshots.
3. The lack of a Clockgen for the 790i made it a chore to do memory testing with the board. Therefore, I would have loved to have more give more results, but after a week and a half of constant booting and re-booting, I thought I'd just post what I have at the moment. If you want, I have some other results, let me know :up:

-Testing was done with minimal voltage adjustments for sake of saving time. The 32m's were not tweaked for times whatsoever (short of LSC on) so nobody say anything about the horrible SuperPi times :p:.

-The kit is rated @ 1.7-1.9Vdimm so, naturally, I'll show results STARTING @ 1.9V :D.


Test Setup:
CPU: Intel (Yes, I know...but AMD has nothing running on DDR3 - at least publicly- yet ;)) E8400
Motherboard: Asus Striker II Extreme, BIOS 0507
Memory: Super Talent Project X W2000UX2GP
Video: EVGA 8800 Ultra
Cooling: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme
PSU: Corsair HX1000

Secondary memory settings were as follows (for ALL runs):
P1 = Enable
P2 = Enable
tRRD = 5
tRC = 4

try using 7-6-6-x timings with JNL ICs
i'm surprised those ones were able to bench that high with 7-6-5-x timings

i get instant corruptions if i try to boot at 1GHz 7-6-5-x hahahah

Hmmm....I tried 777 timings when testing @ 2.0V and it didn't seem to help at all. Although it may have been due to my OS being corrupt already :p:

Just for the record, this kit was a FULL RETAIL KIT....no handpicking or the like :D

Yes.

S7e9h3n use BIOS v0701 or v0702, the CL6 issue is been worked a tad with those, and some other bugs as well.

Did you get a chance to test these on a x38 or x48 mobo? Wondering if they could do even better?

it turns out that some of these are still older Micron based kits hence why 7-6-6- didn't do squat

After reading your post and see that superb results, I decided to go
directly to the nearest shop and buy the mobo Striker Extreme II and 2x1GB Super Talent Project X W2000UX2GP. So I did.

But now I am struggling even to set the memory at default values of:
2000MHz at 9-9-9-28, 1.9 V, slots 1&3.

Even if I set SLI % CPUOC and CPU AUTO the mobo does not post and beeps for ever. I have tried a lot with different variants of unlinked, sync, lower multiplier, CPU Crazy, etc., but without success.

I have also tried your settings (P1,P2 = Enable / tRRD = 5 / tRC = 4 / tRFC = 72), but again nothing.

The best that I could achieve it was to overvoltage the mobo as suggested from Anandtech (maximum recommended for sustained operation):

CPUvtt = 1.36V
Vnb = 1.6V
Vsb = 1.6V

and then to post successfully, but I get blue screen after entering VISTA32.

Did you achieve these results by tweaking mobo voltages? or not?

Could you advise me what i have to do, to reach at least the default specs
from this memory?

My Maximus Extreme needs alot more than 1.6 VNB to hit 500 FSB (I assuming you are using 500 FSB - I'm pretty sure there's not other way to achieve 2000 MHZ). Anyay, with very good custom water cooling and a strong CPU fan directly on the NB, I run 1.71~1.75 VNB @ 41c. Anything lower doesn't cut it and even with that much NB juice my X38 has a rough time with 500FSB. Anyone have any insight on that for us X38 peeps?

I just got the 2x1GB SST DDR3 1800 7 7 7 kit in yesterday. I will try and post up some SP 32M testing results of those on my ME.

I've had the PC3-14400 version of this RAM for a few weeks now (got it back when the price was $300+) and I'm quite impressed with it! Does anyone know what IC's both my PC3-14400 kit and the newer PC3-16000 kits are using? I know you mentioned JNL dinos22 but I wasn't sure if you meant this kit was using them or not? Given how my kit compares to all the other GTR kits I've used I'm assuming my kit is GTR? Unfortunately I've not been able to verify this because removing this heatspreader is a bit more difficult than say removing Crucials or GSkills heatspreader? Whatever IC's this new kit is using the results are pretty decent, thanks for posting your work S7e9h3n. Oh yeah I'll second what BenchZowner mentioned, try flashing your S2E to a newer BIOS as both performance and some minor bugs have been sorted a bit!

I'm willing to bet my left nugget that the only difference in 4 products listed in the 1st post is the SPD/XMP code. I have the 1800 CAS 7 sticks and I'm sure that would (obviously) run at 1600 7 6 6 or 2000 9 9 9. I'll confirm tonight. With that said, it's probably best to buy the 1600. If you look at the specs as per manufacturer's website, it further supports this theory based on 'spec' voltages.

DDR1600 7 6 6 1.9V
DDR1800 7 7 7 2.0V
DDR2000 9 9 9 1.9V

That's exactly what I would expect to see if I was testing the same kit at different speeds. I'll find out tonight if my 1800 will do 2000 at 9 9 9 1.9V. I'm sure it will.

Does anyone have any idea what would be other good latencies to try at 2000MHZ? Would 9 8 7 be decent... 9 7 7 ?? What are good combos to shoot for? I'd be willing to go as high as 2.1V, besides I doubt any more juice than that would help. These high freq Microns don't care for high volts. It just doesn't help above 2.1 in my experience.

The ProjectX sticks are priced fairly aggressively in the UK :) Over £120 cheaper than the equivalent Corsair kit :p:

chris.y2k.r1 - Depending on how much voltage you feel comfortable running your sticks at you could try 8-7-6 or 7-7-7 if your willing to bump the voltage a bit? It might be best to try some timings a bit looser first and then work your way down, keep us posted on your progress.
