Lian Li PC-A70 arrived here last Friday. It is my first Lian Li case I ever own. It is indeed bigger and better than my Thermaltake Eureka Full Tower.

That case is HUGE! Way bigger than a Rocketfish, which was the first monster case I've had in my hands.
Hope to see what you're going to put in there.
biftek.
05-12-2008, 06:12 PM
It actually the same size as the Rocketfish, just a different internal layout. A much better one I might add :p:
Was gonna get this till i got the last rocketfish in my area.
Great start! subscribed for sure.

Hmm...it is the same size as the Rocketfish? The back vents at the top made it look much bigger than a Rocketfish to me, and the HD cage at the top convinced me that it was bigger.
I guess the layout made it look bigger, and not having a Rocketfish for a while has also made me think it was bigger than it was.
Very nice:up: I thinking to build with the same case.

Well, my 2-year-old dremel has stopped working after the first hole was made. I had to order dremel motor brushes (http://www.homedepot.ca/wcsstore/HomeDepotCanada/images/catalog/13c5c027-28a0-417e-9488-cd5badb57ef7_4.jpg) to keep the motor running, which should be here next week.
Hey, I noticed that the outline of the radiator is not in the middle. You're doing that on purpose right?

Heh, yep. :) I'd make it in the middle if I were to mount it on the top of the case.

ashraf, great job so far. i've got a question for you about the cutting that you've done like in this pic: http://royalsrealm.net/images/royalpc/011.jpg
was all of the cutting/drilling done with ONLY your dremel or did you use another saw as well (like jigsaw)? my case is getting in this week and i also need to do the exact same thing and i have a dremel 300. can you tell me exactly which bits you used for drilling the holes for the screws and also for cutting out the squares?

Hey guys. Sorry, I left this thread with no updates for the past few months. Since then, I've been extremely busy with school. Also, I have been trying to save some funds for this project.
Last month I bought a chrome spray paint can to see the actual color. I tried it on a small sheet of aluminum with a coat of white primer. It turned out to be awfully foggy chrome, no shiny at all. I didn’t like it. I decided to go with gloss white for the interior of the case.
Here is a few pictures:

those dremel carbon brushes likes to get stuck to the armature, especially when running hot, after cooling down they won't start cause 1 carbon brush was like sticking to the armature, had to use a long nose pliers to pull it out then re-insert.

This confused me. Why not, you know, just turn the damn thing 90deg instead of using a 90deg fitting on the outlet? Surely you don't have to worry much about tube routing in that big tower?

The manual that came with the pump saying it is bad if I mount the pump like that.
My (wild) guess is the manual refers to the stock Laing top which have inlet/outlet pointed in the same direction, and if turned 90deg the inlet would be "sucking" water upwards. That shouldn't be a problem with an aftermarket top as long as the res or whatever is higher. I could be wrong tho.

What tip do you use for acrylic?
To be honest, it is not even an ideal tool for cutting or shaping acrylic sheets. It is actually good for wood stuff. If you want to use it to cut or shape acrylic, you have to press acrylic sheet firmly. I mean you better handle it carefully. Otherwise it'll be out of control.
Look at what happened to my finger last year... What a noob!

make that thin sheets of metal... thicker than 1/8 will take you a while to cut through...
ashraf, that had to hurt real bad....
also note when cutting or doing anything with acrylic to always wear full face plate and breathing mask... safety from flying bits and pieces and lots of small acrylic particles that is not good when inhaled...

also note when cutting or doing anything with acrylic to always wear full face plate and breathing mask... safety from flying bits and pieces and lots of small acrylic particles that is not good when inhaled...
You get more :banana::banana::banana: into your lungs when you sit next to a smoker or go downtown of some major city.Im not saying you should wear any breathing mask but i think its hypocrite to wear mask cutting few pieces and after that going to have a smoke.

I'm afraid I have to join the "Ashraf-and-his-Dremel" fanclub, you should be a surgeon. Looking superb.
By the way, if you were ever thinking about placing those Turbine fans on a radiator, which you probably aren't anyways, I wouldn't. They practically give up when anything solid comes near them.

I have no plans for this project, really, they just come up. The holes on the front bezel was inspired by one of MNPCTech's computer cases. And the tribal designs I copied and tweaked from the font style tribalz. I try to make it look unique. :)

Hm, I never modded a computer case before. However, I did half mod my old Thermaltake Eureka, which I don’t have it anymore. After a few months, I decided to mod the PC-A70 instead. I am looking forward to completing it as it will be my first and last modded computer case. :yepp:
Also, I had no experience with using spray paints and a rotary tool before. I am still a newbie and learning how to use the rotary tool or spray paints properly. So far, they are easy to use...at least for me. It is all about patience, really.

Like Ashraf said above, don't pressure it. It also helps to go in long strokes instead of just digging it in and cutting the entire way. Take off layer by layer. You'll find it turns out much cleaner, your dremel bits don't break as often, and the whole thing stays a lot cooler. Also, keep the bit at a perfect 90 degree angle and this will make less friction because less of the bit is contacting the metal.

I think Mountain Mods may have them, but they may only be for their 5mm power and HDD LED's. Check their site, www.mountainmods.com

I am back! :woot:
I know it has been a while since the last time I updated this project. Geez, this project started on the 12th of May 2008 and never ended! :p:
Okay, let's start. I have replaced the XSPC Top with EK v2 Top. I think it looks a lot better than the previous one. :)
http://ryl.co/img/mod/086.jpg
A couple days ago, I inspected the top panel of the computer case. A few edges of the panel were imperfect or incomplete. I don't know how I missed those edges. But that is not acceptable. (I am being such a perfectionist.) I did not want to paint to cover the missing areas. So, I ended up removing the whole paint of the top panel to re-do it. ;)
http://ryl.co/img/mod/087.jpg
This is what it looks like right now. :)

To be continued.
Edit: I'd like to thank you guys for your patience.

Of course! I agree 100% with you. :)
that paint is a beeyatch to remove  at least it was on my pa120.3
Let's see... 2 coats of primer + 2 coats of cobalt blue + 3 coats of gloss clear = hard to remove. :D But that blade thing (I don't know what it is called) is the best tool to remove the paint on any metal surface. It took me about 20 minutes to finish it.

It looks beautiful Ashraf. I used that same MNPCTech Turbine mod on a case I built for my nephew about a month ago. Man sanding that kevlar based body filler was a pain....especially getting out all of the air pockets time and time again. But when it was done it sure looked good with a lighted fan behind it! Oh almost forgot....I pay my repsects to the Zen Master of Dremmel Cutting!!!!

Funny, you asked, I was planning to post some pictures tonight. The NYC weather was horrible for days. I couldn't paint the top panel until it had finally stopped raining outside.
