I've never done a RAID array before.
I'd always thought it was-
1 go into BIOS enable RAID
2 press key combination to enter some low level configurer
3 install windows with the drivers slipstreamed on.
I'm pretty good with getting 1 and 3 done but I'm lost on #2. on my board ctrl+g gets me into the jmicron configurer(only drives on that are recognized, and I want iCHR9 since I want to install linux on it and because I can't get both of the cords[they're bended] to work on those channels due to physical constraints)
I have the drives on ATA0 master and ATA0 slave respectively
using gigabyte DS3r
2 640GB WDs

Enable RAID in your BIOS, and then boot into your regular RAID BIOS. You do NOT want the Jmicron one. That is utter ****. On my DFI board, it is Ctrl + I for the RAID BIOS.
Boot into there, set up whatever array(s) you want and their stripe sizes or whatever. Restart the computer with the Windows disk in the drive and everything else should be gravy. You will see the array(s) you created and can install Windows as you please.
I have not done the slipstreaming of the drivers, so I can't help you there. I have a coupla floppy drives laying around, so connecting one wasn't a big deal for the drivers.

ctrl + i doesn't do anything. I tried that a few times.

You want to get into the Intel Matrix RAID BIOS, not Jmicron. Check your motherboard manual for what you have to press to get into that. Also, make sure your drives are plugged into the right SATA ports... sometimes certain ports are JBOD or Jmicron RAID, others are for the Intel Maxtrix RAID.

The option to enable the Intel Raid is first selection that lets you enable raid. The controller option near the lower end of the page is for that Jmicron crap.

Also on my keyboard I had to use the right ctrl to get the ctrl+I to work. left would be ignored, but it works fine in windows.

two things
1 I realize I'm not as dumb as I thought I was
2 despite the above, I still feel a lot stupider
typing this from a fresh install of windows.
thanks.
