is it OK to mix two different brand of router?

Currently I have Linksys WRTGS Wireless router sharing my AT&T DSL

Now, I got the router/DSL hub upstairs for my older rig+PS3,while the 3rd connection is hooked up to share with the rest of the house, so this way any equipment that may need connecting can have access to the DSL.

Downstairs where i do my gaming, I got my Asus A8N and most current Abit IP35PRO.
Since I only have one access in said room I have to unplug and switch CAT5E to get internet connection.

I go to the dungeon/basement and rediscovery I have a Dlink DI-524...which I thought I sold, but quickly realized I sold my other Linksys DSL wired router :shakes:

So I was wondering can I connect the Dlink and make this my router downstairs?

Yep, you can do that. Just plug in the WAN port of your second router into the LAN port of your first and you're good to go.

Edit: Just FYI... you will probably have to change the subnet of the LAN side of the first router to make it go properly (ie. go to 192.168.2.x). Likely they both default to using the same LAN subnet (192.168.1.x) so the second router would have the problem that its LAN IP subnet would be the same as its WAN subnet, which wouldn't work too nicely.

I wasn't able to daisy chain 2 routers but I don't know enough about networking to figure out why - so go with Serra on this. Actually, it did work in terms of getting internet service but I couldn't get to other computers on the network from the second router. I took the easy way out and got a switch (wired only). Apparently they don't really care about protocols, filters and such, they just send stuff where it's addressed. At the time they were almost giving 4-5 port switches away so it seemed like a good move.

It's easier to change the ip of the second router to something like 192.168.1.200 and just use the lan ports on each , this is how i have my routers setup. but use which ever method works best for you.

Or you can turn the wireless off on your 1st router and use the wireless on the second. I have a fios router (the horsecrap verizon gives you) that is use as a wired access point then I have an N router that I use for wireless.

I think I just get this local store:LINKSYS EZXS55W 10/100Mbps Workgroup Switch 5 x RJ45 for $10.24 after MIR.
I will try those suggestions also.
thanks folks
