im ahvign a very hard time finding an article about the limitation and understanding what is the max and memory allowed. For instance i noticed 1800 mhz wont work or whatever, can someone explain this to me and reccommend some ram for me and also apparently i need epp2 to get up to 2000 mhz??? jsut a little confused that all

first of all, nobody needs DDR 2000 memory. DDR 2000 would only be used if you have 500 FSB and were running a 1:2 ratio (which isn't even a little bit necessary).

second of all, 790i can run DDR 1800 as far as i know. it may not officially support that speed because no CPU comes out of the box at that speed, but that's why we overclock. i haven't heard anyone say it can't overclock that fast.

i've tested both Corsair 1800MHz CAS7 2GB, Corsair 1600MHz CAS7 4GB kit and Crucial 2000MHz CAS9 2GB kits and none of them gave me headaches from first bios clear to OCing

They all overclock great as well. I normally test with Corsair 1800MHz kit at 2GHz 8-7-6-20 1T 1.95v and it's been great for me

however i did encounter issues with corruptions when pushing any of these RAMs out very hard with low vdimm so be mindful of that

you do not need EPP2 to reach 2GHz
Corsair sticks i have are not EPP enabled...they only have Intel XMP profiles >> 4GB kit cannot hit 2GHz though but 2GB has no problems

Crucials are EPP enabled and work fine at stock timings and speeds as well as tighter timings just make sure not to overtighten newer JNL IC based RAM if that's what you end up buying

what would be considered the best DDR3?
