View Full Version : I want to build a gaming laptop for my self
Were can I buy empty Laptop case with LCD screen?
and were can i buy laptop Motherboard and parts?
i found somthing:p:
Basically none of the "Name Brand" manufacture their own laptops. The few notable exceptions are Sony, Acer and Apple. Yet, they even do not manufacture all of their own laptops. All of the so called manufacturers buy their laptops from what is called an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM).
ODM - Original Design Manufacturers
ODMs are the true manufacturers who actually design, cast, and assemble the main unit which includes the motherboard, outside casing or shell, and display (called a Barebone). A few examples of ODMs are Quanta, Compal, Clevo, Mitac, Asus, Acer, Arima, Uniwill (now ECS/Uniwill) -- perhaps you have never heard of these companies before. But you have definitely seen their systems under other well known brand names. ODMs are usually located somewhere in Asia, and may have distribution centers in the US. ODMs distribute their product to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Each ODM sells its computers to many different OEMs. Clevo is usually first and on the cutting edge when it comes to gaming laptops.

I'm not sure if it can actually be done... but I think I'll leave it for some experts to answer this

Well it depends on how barebones you actually want to go. Clevo, the company whose parts that Alienware, Sager etc. use to put there stuff together doesn't ship anything less than bulk, so it's not really possible to order through for the little guy.
Asus (check out the c90s) and others offer a barebones laptop but I'm pretty sure they're only 1 or two vid cards compatible and really good laptop vid cards are really expensive (or they were last time I looked). But yeah it can be done, please be sure to know what you are doing and have the technical skills required. I'm not flaming its just building lappies are a lot smaller than desktops and heat is MUCH harder to get rid of.
You can find a lot of parts from broken laptops from the recyclers on fleabay. I hope this helps.
I haven't looked around in a long while, but let me know what country you're in and I'll help you look.
Thanks stocius

No not impossible, but very, very difficult. What's your budget? This stuff can get expensive (it's prohibitive for me). And are those mailboxes PO boxes or street addresses?
As long as it dont cost me > or = to alineware and other vendors offer.
mailboxes PO boxes or street addresses
i guss street addresses but i order stuff from newegg tigerdirect and other vendors in the US all the time and i get them.

If your looking into saving money, there no point, and i dont think its quite practical. If you have several thousand...
But, its going to be several inches thick, horrid batter life, no support or warranty, it would likely look poor...
it not that thick look at this

just the SLI one is kinda thick

Hey bud, gimme a few days as I'll be checking with my friend who owns an online retailer and has connexions to most suppliers. Unfortunately he's out of town to Taiwan. I sent him an e-mail so we will see what he says.

My friend has Clevo parts and clevo barebones. They're the same as Alienware and Sager. I PM'ed you the specs. He does have 8800m GTXs as well (forgot about that in the PM)
EDIT: Easiest thing to do would be to e-mail him a config and he'll give you a quote. You will probably save about $200-600 USD possibly more depending on your config.
