you are right man...it has to
this will become too heavy and create a tremendous load on a motherboard with board sitting vertically as they normally do
people that can afford high end gear will probably get dual cards as well making it even worse............................................. .........
this is good for benching but 24.7 machine EEK
they will have to figure out a way to reinforce the weight somehow as well

even a backplate won't help it
something that heavy they would need extend it so it screws onto your case PCI slot.

i meant to say something on top of the card actually holding the waterblock up so that the PCI Express slot doesn't break if you accidentally bump the PC case a bit you know what i mean
if they had FULL SIZE cards the problem would not exist but how many cases do ppl here use with full PCI cards and retention brackets lol hehehhe

we'll find out on or after may 14th how the block does.

nice looking blocks - but wtf $249??? The $/clock ratio is just way off. $50 for a cooling solution might make sense for some of us - but anything over $100 is just silly.
I am sure that the blocks cost a ton of $$ to produce/develop etc. - but I am afraid that the real world performance improvement can not justify the tag that comes along with those beauties

if HWBOT don't add points to this bench which i hope they don't due to these issues and the fact they are trying to force commercial software onto general OC population i won't really bother with this benchmark TBH
Heh, think this was meant for the Vantage discussion

no... not sold out...
and yes this block is over priced.... ViperJohn could easily beat this thing and save you a ton of cash...

Wow I didn't ntoice it was 250.
And it probably is pretty heavy

That thing looks SO heavy. I wonder if TR's air cooled heatsink will be lighter?

he overcharges for his blocks as well
i mean have a look at the pricing for his latest chipset block
WTF hehehehe

People who got the cash for a GX2, also pretty much have the money for this full cover block.

The last time I used a full length PCI card with a retention bracket was in 1998 :p it was a dual GPU 3DFX voodoo2.

Nothing too fancy. Seems kinda...simple for a $249.99 block. I mean, copper is soft to mill, but c'mon....

EK's FC GX2 block goes for around 180.00, and DD's 200.00. Unless your giving away free steak diners at Morton's, 249.00 USD just isn't going to cut it IMO, and quite a few others opinon also it would seem.
Nice lookign block and design, but you guys kind of blew it with the solid copper design both on cost and weight.

If they came on the card as a stock option for $250 more, it might be a good deal to some people.
But its kinda pricey....

Wonder if they will come with 9800GTX blocks?

It would make more sense with a delrin copper sandwich. Oh wait thats an EK...

I'm sorry, but since when does ATItool load dual GPUs? From nearly all the testing I have done and others have done, ATItool is only able to fully load a SINGLE card. Maybe the new beta is different though...
Show me those same temps after 15 minutes of the 3DMark06 Batch Size test at the highest triangle count at 2560 res and then we're talking.

yeah i think you're right there
he'll need to run some 3DMARK03 to really stress the GPU hehehe

Nice pics! I'm honestly impressed considdering that it's the first waterblock they've ever designed and built. I have to laugh at all the other comments... when pics were shown of the innovatek block people cried because it was aluminum (which they obviously chose for weight) everywhere people cried that if it were copper then maybe they'd buy it. Then you have DD's solution which correct me if Im wrong but came to market long before EK and is a "derlin sandwhich" This derlin sandwhich to save weight comes in @ 3lbs (DD model) Now don't get me wrong I absolutely repect the quality that DD and EK has put out but this is the first design for evga and and is the ONLY block available that is all copper. The price of copper these days has gone through the roof and IMHO this is why most DD and EK single card blocks have all moved to derlin or acryllic halves. Has anyone tested the heat dissipation of a full copper block of the same size compared to a derlin half??My point I guess is, yes its price is high, yes it's going to weigh in because its all copper. Does anyone remember DD's first block to market? EK's?? I think this is an admirable job and when looking at weight has anyone weighed 2 8800 waterblocks lately? In fact has anyone even weighed the air cooler for a 9800gx2??. Probably not because none of the people bashing this block have one. It's freaking heavy!! You dont put even one, let alone 2 9800gx2 blocks in a system without considdering extra support even without water cooling. So IMHO its overpriced but if you want an all copper block with inlet outlet configurable fittings for a 9800gx2 its only $40 more than its closest competitor. My only concern would be internal design and with these pics now posted I am satisfied. I apologize for my rant but no matter what you look up on the net you will find a team of people just as unhappy with one design as the next and if one person gives constructive crittisism there will be 20 lemmings posted behind him bashing products they dont even have a need for let alone can afford to buy and instantly they are all engineers in thermodynamics.
Just because no solution pleases everybody doesn't mean that no solution is better than another. In this case, we've got a slab of copper that might just be capable of threatening the structural integrity of the motherboard slot - I'd consider that a legitimate complaint. In the Innovatek case, they were using a metal with poorer thermal characteristics that introduced the possibility of corrosion (and it was fugly) - I'd consider that a legitimate complaint.
A couple posts in the larger water-cooling forums, asking what people thought of the Delrin Sandwich approach, would have almost certainly gotten a solid "Yes" for reasons already discussed.

It just seems that $249 is a lot to pay to cool a card that will be outclassed by others coming out in the next month or two. Would be helpfull to know if that block will fit the next gen nvidia x2 card, if not "what a waste of money, it will just be scrap metal.

I agree, I was contemplating building a water cooled PC then looked at the prices of GPU water blocks and started to wonder...seems alot of money wasted given how often we replace GPU's so I ended up finding a nice deal on a phase change so i can OC the heck out of the CPU and just keave the graphic cards alone and replace when the next best thing comes out. Hopefully phase doesn;t get obsoleted with the next gen of intel processors though :D
