According to the KOMO TV Website, Microsoft has withdrawn its bid for Yahoo after presenting them with an increased offer that was subsequently declined by Yahoo. Frankly, this seems like a smarter decision on Microsoft's part, but I'd like to hear how other people feel about the deal. Should Microsoft have walked away, pressured Yahoo via a hostile takeover or sweetened the pot until Yahoo gave in?" For those who prefer it, the NYT also has coverage, and the story is also at news.com, among many others. I like the Beeb's version as well. And for the Microsoft-centric explanation of why the courtship is over, see Steve Balmer's letter to Jerry Yang.

Microsoft and Yahoo would've made a monster of a company.

I'm pretty sure, worldwide, yahoo has the most traffic.

Just wait, doesn't mean they won't go through with hostile takeover.

lol I've never understood this kind of things... What type of mentality are you people getting over there? If you like a certain brand and fully enjoy it's products that does not mean that the next one automatically sucks. Like if I would drive a Mercedes CLS, does that mean that all BMW cars would suck from there on for me? Or what?

Bah, Mercs aren't mean to be uber fast sports cars. They're supposed to be like a driver's car with a little get-go to them :)

Back on topic, I'm sure Microsoft just got frustrated that Yahoo was stalling for so long.
Just wait, Yahoo will tank and wish they would have allowed a buyout

I don't think Microsoft has enough spare cash to take up Google.
...and the FTC and DoJ would not be happy at all to hear of it.

Just wait, doesn't mean they won't go through with hostile takeover.

iirc/from what I understand, the whole 'hostile takeover' was thrown out the window, then came this last offer, after which, withdrawal would occur.. bringing us to now :) but I could be wrong tho..

I havent read much about the pros & cons of this.. but isnt it a bit of a worry having one less company (providing competition) in the marketplace? At least thats how I thought it always was  hence making me feel kinda relieved that big bad ol' MS didnt get them ( na-nana-nana MS :p: :D )

Don`t overestimate Google. Any company which has 98% of its revenue streams relying on a single product is anything but stable. It is open to increased volatility from changes in demand, regulations and new entrants which happen all the time.

You cannot even begin to fathom the impact on Google if MS or Yahoo decide tomorrow to make all their online ad and marketing services free of charge.

my thoughts, exactly :p:

if ms really plans to takeover yahoo i think yahoo's decision to decline ms' offer was the worst choice they've ever made ;)

Maybe Microsoft should spend there money making sure there will be no more XBOX 380 issue's, rather than bidding then failing in a takeover bid of yahoo.

P*ssed of my 360 gave me that lovely 4 red lights of death last week, grrr....

Still it lasted me nearly 2 years, thats more then most people got, suppose i should be gratefull eh.

nah, not gonna happen... the yahoo stock holders are way greedier than the yahoo board of directors

if ms will push for a hostile takeover its gonna cost them more than negotiating with the board of directors would have cost them :P

That's the thing, they have estimations of that. It might be cheaper to get from share holders actually. As share holders will make money on that if they're willing to sell, vs Yahoo just making the money.

No, i have used yahoo's services numerous times, and really it represents all that is wrong with the net. My life would have been much better had yahoo never existed.
