what's a good 100GB 16MB (if any) HD for WinXP only...just in case it fails, only this HD gets ruined.
I got two 500GB now for:
C: is OS and some benchies for new build that can be erased later.
D: is for Programs and ...ok game stuff

but I want another seperate/ physical HD for WinXP PRO only not too big...not too expensive...doesn't have to be burning fast...just for OS.

can you recommend?

You could get a nice Seagate Barracuda 160GB for cheap. I have two of the 320's and they're great. :D

This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148140) is the one I have, but for even less you can get the 160GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148230) or 250GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148261) version.

Another thought is to have a couple of fast CF's in RAID 0.

My XP SP2 + OfficeXP + a few "essentials" like nero, WinDVD etc. comes to only 5.36GB. You can get 2 CF to IDE adapters for less than five bucks here:

If you can find a couple of fast CF's that can hold your installation, you'll have a fast and quiet little setup.:)

It'll be quiet, but you'll kill it with writes. CF's just don't have the write longevity necessary.

If you're going for something cheap for a hard drive, just do like an above poster suggested and find the cheapest Seagate on NewEgg that'll fit your wallet requirements.

Edit: Looks like another poster just asked about it. So to help stop the spread, I'll reiterate: they have limited write cycles and Windows likes to do some writing of its own on occasion. This is not a recommended practice. Plus, excepting the very much more expensive stuff, the read/write throughput is pretty awful per CF.
