Hello everyone, Im new to the board but have been lurking for quite a while, and enjoy reading of the oveclocking madness that happens around these parts:cool:
Anyways I am going to be building two identical systems, one for me and one for my bud. I have decided on IC7 and 2.4c. My goals for these systems are to reach 3gig cpu speed and run the memory 1:1. So With the 2.4c's multiplier of 12 that would bring the memory to 250 mhz. 1 gig of ram is needed as we do lots of video editing and photoshop. The problem is that I see the good memory at newegg (pc4000,4200) costs a damm arm and a leg. Is there any cheaper memory that will run 250mhz at decent timings (at least cl2.5) that is a little chaper. Ideally I would like to spend ~200-225. I have been reading my ass off and it seems like everyone has some different opinions.
Twinmos?
Mushkin?
Any ideas would be great!
Theres A-DATA PC4000. That is very cheap compared to the rest of the PC4000.
With TwinMOS you wouldnt get 250 IMO. If you did you'd be lucky to find two sticks that done it as you won't find a single 1GB stick.
You may even have to get 4 x 256 instead of 2 x 512 in which case if one stick wont reach that speed but the others will you'll be limited to the slower stick.
Welcome to the Xtreme!

I'd go A Data or Geil

I am about to pull the trigger on this stuff here:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?DEPA=1&submit=manufactory&catalog=147&manufactory=1687&description=&page=2
3rd one down, says 3.5ns chips. Timings look better than the Adata and cheaper as well. Hav you fellaz been having good luck with the Geil?

the geil is good, but you have to be able to pump some volts thru it
do you have max III by any chance?

No I havent bought the motherboard yet, I was thinking of going witht he normal IC7 as I dont need raid or the gigabit lan. From what I understand there really isnt much voltage diff betweent he regular and max3? Or is there?

on the max III the vdimm is 3.2, a lot higher that most boards out there

I just cant stomach the extra 100 bucks fo r some extra voltage and *pretty* mosfet fans. ahh decisions descisions

BTW what is the Vdimm on an old IC7 without volt mod?

2.8 i believe

yep, it is 2.8v and the vdimm mod is a pain in the arse.
I would have to agree with you kdogg, I can't bring myself to spend another $100 for baiscally abit to do the vdimm for me.

Well, the Epox 4PDA2+ v2.0 does offer a much higher voltage for Vcore, VAGP and also the VDIMM, 1.85v, 2.2v, and 3.3v respectively.

but where to find the board

Well I got the setup today and am now running at fsb 250!! takes 2.8 volts and settings are 2.5,4,4,7 but it is running!! Only problem is that one of the modules is bad, so both sticks will have to go back, however the one that works is currently doing 250.
The CPu is a malay one pack date 6/26/2003. It is running @ 3 gigs at 1.48 actual (IC7 seems to be undervolting a bit) but it is rock solid. Temps are ab out 47 under load with the oem heatsink..
Once I get 2 good sticks of memory this is going to be one kick ass system. I am very impressed with it so far.:toast:

Forgot to ask.. the cpu is a SL6WF any idea how high these are going? is there a database someone can refer me to?

Here is a screenshot of what its running currently. 3.42 @ default volts and 5:4 ratio ram running in the 220's with hard timings... very stable at this speed:toast:
ohh yaa, stock oem cooler!!

pretty good
dont like that resolution though

Thanks. This IC7 is really a great board to overclock!! as far as the resolution goes it is native for this LCD (1024x768) I may be looking into an aftermarket cooler as I think this chip has good potential, but thats about it with the stock heatsink, I would like to see it at 3.5 or 3.6!
