Ok im all set to do the vgpu for my 9800 and i was told the with the variable resistors that you turn the nob conter clockwise until the pin is stickin as far ot as possible before doing the mod. Well ive turned and turn and the screw is goin no where. I bought this 10k 15 turn Vr from radio shack. Am i doing something wrong

You need to check the vr with your multimeter as you turn the screw. You can raise the resistance by turning it either way depending on which outside leg of the vr you decide to use. The screw does'nt go in and out so you will have to use the multimeter to see where you are.

Set your multi to read k-ohms. Put the leads on the vr pins you are going to solder to and see what you read. If it is a 10k ohm vr you should start close to 10k ohms (9.75 or closer). This will give you the most headroom to up the voltage and will be safe to start.

Here is a link to some pics of my 9800 vmod. The fan header makes voltage checking a breeze with one hand while adjusting the voltage with the other.

yeah i was goin to do something like that cus my hands are steady enough to touch those small pins. Btw do you increase voltage while the pc is on?

I have found that the vr does'nt increase the voltage consistantly per turn. It seems to jump up quicker as you increase the number of turns so I like to see the voltage increase in real time.

Sorry, I got lost in my own reply and did'nt really answer your question. Yes , I increase the voltage with the pc on.

if you turn to far, you can damage it..

which probably already happened.

set your multimeter to the outside pins, and see if it equals 1.000 or whatever your's is for

nope its not damaged they all work fine so mod should be done soon
