PCI-E 1.1 card in a 2.0 slot

Hi, ive just put my 8800gtx (1.1 card) into a maximus formula board (which is pci-e 2.0). Now my card shows up as a 16lane card using 8 lanes?? is this because PCI-E2 is 2x the bandwidth of PCIe1.1 ? Or is something wrong??

PCI-E 2 does not affect the number of lanes - rather, it speeds up those lanes that already exist. Your card should show as PCI-E 16x using 16 lanes - if it's not, then you've probably got a BIOS or jumper setting wrong. The fact that it's PCI-E 1 won't make any difference.
