I just got my Q9450 in my PC and running. Something does not seem right. I did update the bios to the latest 3/17 release, that is not the problem. The issue here is that a speed of 400FSB * 8 multi for 3.2GHz with RAM at default divider, ~960MHz (below stock speed), I can not get the Q9450 stable at all (tried up to 1.35v). Also, at idle stock speed, RealTemp 2.4 says it's like 42C, which is definitely wrong, I am on water, PA120.3 triple fan, MCP655, d-tek fuzion with quad nozzle. I think the temp sensor is shot funky. In the bios it says it's like 8C.

Anyway, the only voltages I touched were NB to 1.5v (it has an HR-05 IFX passive) and CPU vcore to 1.35v with vcore at 1.35v. This dfi board has an assload of voltage settings, I think I need to use them, but I don't know what they are. I took pictures of the relevant screens in the bios, here they are (click to enalrge):

Can anyone help me?

Its not your cpu, its more the combination of your mem/timings/fsb/voltage thats probably affecting it... The board is very picky with settings especially for mem and with you running 8gs you will need to spend some time, make that spend alot of time looking for the right combination... Praz has some settings for running 8gs at the P-T2R thread in the Intel section... Id share mine but you wouldnt like the voltages I use....

Couple of things that might help....

- this board doesnt really like things to be at "auto"
- set trfc to like 54
- try to set PL and not auto, whereas youd think the board will set a conservative figure at auto, it tends to set it aggressively ...
- gotta put the time in...

I'm having trouble location Praz's settings you mentioned, do you have a link? Please do share yours... I am not afraid of voltage.

Also for all the memory settings on auto... I have no idea what to set them at, as I have no frame of reference as to what they should be, and setting too low or too high could make the board not POST and require a CMOS reset... very annoying and time consuming, especially with my wc loop.

Anybody else have some info?

Try setting the board up with 2 sticks of ram instead of 4. Set tRFC to 52 or higher. It will be easier to find stable settings for and give a place to start when the 4 sticks are used.

You may want to take a look at this post. Possibly, finding stability is beyond your control. Although not mentioned, if a user is going to experience issues with the memory it will also apply to the X48 board.

we don't recommend it to run on DFi X38 and P35 for now. it has problem.

Thats really not an option... because I use Virtual PCs and have a ton of memory intense programs open at once... ut3 unrealed, photoshop, etc...And I really need all 8gb. Stability seems fine with stock speeds...

Instead finding tightest stable timings, what settings would you recommend that are very loose and should give me the best chance of overclocking? This is a real shame... my 9450 had an ending batch number of 777 and it is a C1 revision. I lapped it, used CLP and a d-tek fuzion w/ quad nozzle all in anticipation of some xtreme overclocking :(

Also I never hear the PC speaker on the board. I thought the default jumper setting is enabled. Is it not on the LT?

Heh, i wish i could help ya, but i can't, since this mobo has a complete mind of it's own when you populate more than two dimm slots with RAM.

I can underclock my 8 GB & be unstable, but if i run 2:3 (OCed RAM) with everything completely auto, it's magically stable.

Of course, you won't be able to run 2:3 with your setup, so GL...you're gonna need it.

I'd say try running 1:1 & testing Memtest & HCI Memtest to see if that's at least stable.

If that is, then you can work on the CPU a bit more.

Check your PSU. You need an extremely stable one for this one processor. I can hit over 4GHz with my chip, but without a good PSU, I can't even get 3GHz to stay stable. Actually, even stock might not be stable.

maybe you can help me too?
is it ok I can't go over 420 FSB on dfi lp lt p35-t2r and q9450?

tried NB with 1.55v, VTT 1.3v -- no luck, only about 415-420 fsb
(cpu multiplier set to x6, ram 2x1gb 1:1,4-4-4-12, 5-5-5-12 2.27v -- no matter)

or please send me to the posts with a similar problems (and possibly resolved :) )
