After seeing the recent threads of regional OCing get togethers and having to been to a small one here in my area about a year ago.

I was thinking.

Given a reasonable amount of time, and gathering of friends in teh various regions, though this may be a bit far fetched idea.

Have lets say 4-5+ or more groups get together in their respective regions, i.e. NE, SE, Mid wid west, SW, NW for example.

Each grp, shoot for an OC/3d mark score (01/03/05/06) Super- Pi run or something all agree upon.

Have the admins here make the final decision on what score/time to shoot for? Or a specific OC with said specific hardware?
I am not talking about using the most recent uptodate hardcore hardware and this is to make it more reasonable a goal to reach for all parties.

Maybe get sponsors? Though I know nothing about getting sponsors.

I am sure at leaste 1-2 members with in each grp can allocate and aquire the means for LN-2/Dice/Phase to allow for insance OCs, as well as provide the hardware to make the runs. If possible however, I am thinking that each grp uses as specific board/ram/CPU/GPU to try and lvl the playing field.

Maybe, if Fugger/XS Admins provide some sort of award for claiming the crown between said grps? Something as simple as a customer color/title here on XS? A t-shirt? Dunno, something.

This is all just an idea, so, I don't know if this would take off. So...........

Is it reasonable and feasible?

A way to test the skill and knowledge of folks in a region and bragging rights here on XS?

I'm up for it, remember Vince lives in my region:D , now if only i had ever talked to or met him...

we could all pony up some HW. like say a celeron or 2gb kit of ram. then the winner gets all the hardware. and the losers get........nothing.

I like the idea of a contest, the other get togethers got me wanting to host a bench session. I don't have any friends locally who care about computers like I do. so getting peopl to travel seemed like a good idea.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest here in the NY metro area - well, maybe some interest, but doesn't seem doable for a lot of people.

I suspect getting something organized here will be like trying to herd cats. People are busy with work and other commitments and everybody has their own ideas of how to do things.

The only way I can see this happening is if you get one person from each region who would take on the burden of getting everything set up and then present it like - this what we have planned, this is when it will be, come if you want. I have some space in my basement that could be used - with enough notice - but I couldn't put people up for a night or weekend.

Maybe not up in NY, but those of us down here around Philly were able to get together. As I said though, this may take time to get everyone together in their grps, but not setting a specific time limit, maybe over the next year?

I'd come down to Philly for a session - it'd be cool to meet people I "see" every day. I had suggested my location because it's halfway between NY and Philly and easy to get to by car, bus or train. But if you get something together for PA - definitely let me know.

Cool idea to take these get togethers a 'step further'...

I'd like to do that.
I'm not rich, and I don't have that great of OCing skill, but I'd try and help any other way I could. How exciting :D

I would love to be a part of it and could provide a lot for a MN meet. Contest or no contest I would love to see some more organization in the forums for local meetings. I have no idea of how many local people would even be interested in getting together. PM me if you want to.

Probably not an event too many of us Canuks could get behind though - low population density FTL (well, for this kind of thing anyway). I think the only person on these forums within a few hours of me with over a hundred posts is STEvil. On the other hand, I do know where I can go for free LN2 and STEvil does have a lot of hardware....

I commit the Atlanta Overclockers to this endeavor. I am certain there are more than just me that's interested in competing against other teams. I think we'd be willing to swing some funds towards a single prize. I'd say it would also be interesting to do an entire series. The 9600GT is something we'll be targeting down here in Atlanta but I"m sure we are up for something else if you guys are interested. We are mainly guys that bench our 24/7 hardware with a few core benchers. Whoever organizes this or needs some help organizing just keep me informed.

There's nobody in my area for miles and miles...

So I guess I represent my area by myself. Pah, I got a bunch of stuff, just none of it really any good...

I'm in Upstate NY--but I cannot travel like that. Maybe a SE meet--somewhere in Florida will be doable in a few months.

I'd be up for this. I've got a car, so I wouldn't be bound by being able to bring nothing with me on the train like I was last year with the Philly meet.
