Hi Guys,

I bought an Intel QX9650 from US through a friend of mine(i think he got it from BestBuy), since it wasnt available in India around 1-2 months ago. Asked him to get just the chip and not bring the box and sink since was not planning on using the sink anyways and i thought i wont need the warranty since in 10 years of my computer experience have never had a busted CPU. Unfortunately during one of my overclocking sessions, it went bust, now can some1 tell me how to get the warranty. I am completely screwed it seems, still if some1 has any experience of handling such issues, help wud be very much appreciated. This chip was almost my months salary and there are so many other expenditures that i eventually had to take a loan for it. I doubt sending it back to US would be a possibility since none of my friends reside there and none of them are planning to go again in the near future. I think Intel wud ask too many numbers which i dont have, or is the number on the chip itself sufficient to get warranty????? Basically its nothing more than a OEM chip at present so i am screwed

IIRC there is a one year warranty for OEM chips. Intel India should honour it.

It's a retail chip. The serial number should match up at Intel, and you can send any stock HSF with it. I just RMA'd a QX9650 with a Q6600 stock heatsink.

Yeah. My recent Intel RMAs have gone like this:

Retail E8500 CPU + E2140 stock HSF
Retail QX9650 CPU + Q6600 stock HSF

The E8500 came back a sealed retail box. I'm expecting the QX to be the same... I'll find out Monday when it arrives :)

EDIT:
Both are retail box sealed. Just received it today!!! :) L740B306. Can't see PCB codes though..
