If somebody can explain whats happening here, you will be my hero cos Im confused like you wouldnt believe.... Bottom line is that for some reason everytime I use my QX9650 there will always be a load on the cpu even at idle....
This all started when I got a new vidcard ( 8800GTS G92), everything was fine for about a day then all of the sudden I cant get into windows ( XP and Vista). It will boot and I can go to the bios but then just before the OS starts ill just reboot... Ive tried everything, even on a new OS and default settings itll do the same thing, Ive swap every hardware ( ram, hd,mobo, vidcard and psu ) but to no avail, if I use a diff cpu I dont get that problem so I was pretty sure its the cpu.... I unfortunately lapped it so no warranty....
While in the bios, I noticed in the hardware monitor that my cpu temp was at 127c:eek: That cant be true so I put a probe and as expected temp was normal, its just not reading right.... I then disabled the cpu shutdown feature that shuts the comp down at 85c, I was relieved when finally I can get in windows...
First thing I notice while in windows was that my benches ( spi) were abnormally slow, looking at the task manager I found out that theres always a load on the cpu even at idle... cpu load never goes below 20% and the process thats loading it was "system" so at idle itll be 25% "system" then the rest was "system idle process" ...
After days of searching for ways to stop the load, I came across a program called Process explorer ( procexp ), its like task manager but more detailed.... I found out that the actual process that was putting a load was ACPI, though I couldnt kill it, I can suspend it and after that the load is gone ( 0% cpu usage)... I have to do this everytime I start XP, unfortunately Vista home premium 32bit wont let me suspend it, Im ok with that since I bought this cpu for benching and I only use XP for benching....
This was back in late january, and since then Ive been using my E8400 for 24/7 and the QX only for benching.... Last week, I sold my E8400 cos E8500 will be available soon, so I have to use the QX now 24/7... after a day I noticed that my cpu usage was back to normal, no more load at idle:D , rebooted to double check and its still good, the only thing thats different then and now is that Im using Vista Ultimate (32bit) instead of home premium.... I then booted off my XP drive and the problem still exist, I did a fresh install of XP and the result was the same, I guess vista Ultimate is the bomb....
Few days ago, I had to clear cmos and instead of loading my 24/7 settings ( saved in cmos ) I just hit f1 so itll load the default settings, with the same vista ultimate, the problem was back.... So rebooted and loaded my 24/7 settings and problem is gone, so i went through every setting to see whats affecting it but I cant find it:shrug: .... If I use the magic setting in xp the problem still exist:confused: ...
So WTF?
The voltage/temp readings gets all screwed up in smart guardian and cpuz, ( coretemp is ok ) after shutting acpi only the cpu temp is abnormal..
