I have read an article in cpu magazine and it talked about lapping, i am watercooling a q6600 should i lap the processor, I was thinking this would solve my difference in temps out if i even the sirface or will i always have those? I am getting on idle and load a 9-10 deg difference , im running 780i chipset 4 gigs memory q6600 antec 900 case. O also sli 8800 gtx's. I have reaseted a bunch of times and always the same old :banana::banana::banana:. I get a huge degree difference, my watercooling temps right now as we speak are 22 21 26 and 17 that is a big gap to have! Has anyone else had this problem with the q6600 and should i lap?

I wouldnt really complain about those temps lol. Is the waterblock smooth btw? And yeah, go for it, if I were you I would expect about a 2-3 C temp difference.

did you lapp your processor or the cpu waterblock, im a little confused about your post i am getting 10 deg difference and i know its mounted right, isnt lapping when you sand down the cpu, or are you saying the waterblock?

How is one of your cores at 17ºC?

Are you using speedfan? If so, add 15C to that, and use coretemp...

I have a 9ºC difference between my 1st and 4th core, and lapping did not help.

um its cold outside and have a window open and im not using speedfan how would that help with water cooling its my reserator doing the cooling i have a xt i know you guys hate zalmen products but this thing works alright

Still doesnt explaine my intel q6600 having that wide of a range between cores wha the hell is that from is it normal, and if so has anyone dealed or spoke to intel about it?

Btw, are the loads on each core the same? Try shutting off every application and let it idle so each core is about the same load and see if the temps equal out.

ive done that and nothing helps but i didnt cancle all programs i thought idle was jsut 0 percent processor usage

Idle is sitting at the desktop without anything open. Virus/firewall/etc is fine as long as they're just running in the taskbar.

Intel is notorious for having back heat spreaders. Sometimes lapping doesn't help and the cores are off in temp because the solder between the die and the heat spreader is uneven.

so this is normal no one has answered my question though does any one here in this freakin forum ahve a q6600 with uneven temps across cores is this normal or do i ahve defective chip im sick of reaseating bc i have done it almost 20 times not and im being serious im not exaggerating.

Im not worried about the tempeture im worried about the huge gap between the temps 10 deg is big if you ask me most get about 3-5 im getting double that, and i have checked the even ness seems pretty even and i know its mountied right with the right thermal paste, at first i was like ok maybee it isnt even or i may need to remount but after that many times you would think it would just right every time i did it temps went down bu gap as still there my temps are where they should be i think jsut the gap wont go away so i thought lapping would even it out

YES ITS NORMAL!! i think youve posted about this in 5 different threads and ive told u the same thing everytime. intel proc temp sensors rnt great in accuracy. plus like polizei said they have bad sodder. just leave your rediculously low reserator temps alone for a bit and be happy your gettting the temps your getting.

Ok my flamings done now.

I dont see the big deal. I said i have a 9ºC difference and i lapped my processor. Clearly there is uneven contact below the IHS on Core 2's. There is little need for this thread to continue.

Next time you post, can you please try to spell the word out, maybe throw some periods in there as well? Thanks.

Are you using the Fusion with the quad nozzle? If so maybe you put the nozzle in 90* off. I did have about a 8*C temp difference from hottest to coldest core when I was on air. Now I have a 1*C temp difference under load.

And as said before. I wouldn't worry to much about it. If everything else is in order. Also I have a pro mount on my Fusion and of course tightened it down in a x pattern going a few turns at a time to get totally even seating pressure. I'm also using MX-2 TIM. Maybe you are using to much TIM.

My lapping guide (http://forums.hardwarelogic.com/f32/lapping-your-cpu-guide-8516.html)

If you ever decide to lap it...

People are also more inclined to help if they can read and understand what you've written.

Yep....unfortunately, not all CPU's are created equal...even in the same batch. It really all depends on how well the solder contacts the chip(s) and IHS. This is one of the many reasons why you can't directly compare your temps to anyone else's.

Umm, he's using a Zalman Reserator XT, which IIRC, has been stated in every one of the 5 or so topics he started to complain about the same problem.

People that open their window(s) when it's snowing outside and risk catching a bad case of pneumonia so they can post that their CPU idles at 20 degrees make me laugh.
