I was going to go with 18, but wanted the performance of the Raptor for the system drive (will probably be a RAID 5)...

Trying to get the power supply sorted out now...and the custom wiring harness and connectors. Until then, I'll run the Raptors and 6x1TB for now on my 850SSI with the single 8800 Ultra (will probably be adding GX2s as well, once the PCP&C 1200 arrives). Then expand the array (adding in the other six drives) when the power supply gets here.

Gotta take it easy on the 850 in the meantime...;)

its gonna take forever to make a array of those 12 1tb disk. It took almost a whole day for my 2.5tb of 7 500gb disk raid 6 of course. what software do you use to change the partition of the monster 12tb array? i ask this cause once you go higher than 2tb u have to use xp64 or higher to support it. and right now i cant seem to find similar programs like partition magic with support for bigger than 2tb disk.

I use XP x64...still working out an issue with the controller though...some files corrupt when I put more than 2TB worth of data on the array. I'm trying using the 4K block instead of 64-bit LBA...I'll see if it helps alleviate the problem.

To make a RAID 6 array of the 6x 1TB drives it takes well over a day...;)

I don't think your Areca card will work with that board.
See Cyberdruids thread on his experiences and ahhh,oh, since your not quite ready yet, can I borrow your cpu's for a week? :wasntme:

If the Areca becomes an issue, the Adaptec 52445 is available. Hopefully it won't come to that, but thanks for the info on potential issues.

Seriously, I enjoy having the best...I never had it growing up. What I do on the computer? A fair bit of WoW, lots of movie viewing, and especially Flight Simulator X. I enjoy being able to throw whatever I want at the the computer (as I did on my old Precision 690, dual quad core system). I recall one event last year where an IE window began self replicating...and did so continually. It was pretty funny to watch CPU usage climb to 25% and watch 2GB of memory being used by IE alone...something that would seriously bog most machines. The dual quad core shrugged it off. Nothing exceeds like excess...;)

Thats cool man.
I am not here challenging your spending because if you can afford it all power to you, I share the same philosophy. I couldn't wait for skulltrail though and couldn't tolerate waiting for FB dimms plus how they'd be server boards only.

Nice rig, kind of regret not waiting for the 9770. Don't regret buying the 9775 though :) Kinda gouged up here. Kudos, sir.
