Can i try my pump out of the case to make sure its ok,say fill the sink up and put the inlet hose in and the outlet resting on the top of the sink, will this work or will i have to build the loop up to run.
Thanks.

D5s don't self prime (suck in water) so water has to flow freely into the inlet. If the pump has to pull the water out of the sink then it won't work. In general if you want to test the pump outside the loop you can install a barb on a big bucket (think home depot) and use that to feed the pump (with the outlet obviously re-filling the bucket). If you do this with a small container the water will contain a lot of air bubbles making for a very noisy pump and the water will get quite warm rather quickly. Hope this helped.

Meatpuppet is right, neither the D5 or DDC are self priming but either can be set up on the bench next to the sink with a couple of feet of hose attached to the inlet and outlet.
Just make sure the inlet hose is underwater - flick the pump on and physically suck the outlet hose (as you would if you were siphoning petrol from a car) until the water is drawn into the pump which will prime the pump and you’re good to go
