K i dunno where else to ask this. I'm hoping someone here would know. Anyways here at work we are deciding to eliminate an older pc by making it a VM.

It def runs better but one thing is proving problematic.

I run the the VMware player and and it boots up fine and works well. Needless to say i need a 56K external modem to be able to be used through the host machine.

I added the required info to allow com1/com2 ports on the vm but nothing is working.

http://x86virtualization.com/virtualizationnews/vmware-player-part-3-custom-built-images.html

So, every time i enable the com1 while im in the vm the modem im connected to loses its TR(terminal ready) status because AFAIK its being routed into the VM.

Lastly yes there is no other option. i am at times connecting to remote sites where there is only dialup.

Does anyone have enough experience with vm player to figure this out with me? Anymore info needed let me know

The modem was originally connected to the VM pc before it was vm'ed but now i just need to use it through my current pc. It just won't detect the modem so i can dial a connection out.

Grab vmware server and try with that.

Make sure the host OS can see and access the modem (and the com ports match)

Can we have some more info about the program/enviroment?

Have you thought about using a router instead, where when you access a particular site it auto dials for you.

Why not just share the connection to the internet and use NAT?
