See the title. I've become tired of my (fourth) Striker Extreme and I have the possibility of returning the Striker to my retailer for a refund of €209. For the same money I can get a Maximus Formula board. However, for €30 more I can get the Rampage Formula board.

I've done a search on the internet and it seems the only difference between the boards is the chipset (X38 vs X48).

Is it worth to invest the €30 in the X48 chipset?

Well I got the Maximus SE, and love it. I flahsed it to the Rampage so now I have a rampage for no extra cost :)

I suppose the X48 would help, but I dont think its worth the extra money. A simple flash will do it.

Because you dont have the Maximus yet, I would go for the Rampage.
the x48 runs cooler.

Yeah sure, go for the Rampage but I think it's just a waste of $60USD for a X48... You can flash it for free.

If you dont mind spending it then get the Rampage.

why not save some money and go with a DFI LP LT P35-T2R?

having owned, the Maximus Formula SE, Rampage Formula, and DFI LP LT X48-T2R i haven't found an advantage in the new X chipset yet.

If I am going to return my Striker, I'll have to do it within 30 days and I won't have the money by then. Also, I'm a bit of an Asus/ROG fan :p:

if you flash it it wont be an x48, it will still be an x38 but with the rampage bios and nothing other then the bios, id go with the x48 personally

Exactly, I'm not voiding my warranty either with all the problems I had with this board.

You won't void your warranty because it's reversible. X48 is pretty much just a cherry picked X38 that officially supports the higher FSB. I have two of the Maximus Formulas flashed to Rampage bios and they work flawlessly. I also have been able to achieve higher stable overclocks with the Rampage bios... without spending the extra money on the X48 boards.

X48 is just an X38 with a Rampage bios.

I'm also with this same dilema ..... Rampage or Maximus .... the diference is 35€ and I'm going to use it with a Q6600 G0 that was on a P5K-E @3600MHz with 1,408v at load.

Is X48 worth the extra 35€ ?
