i was working in our company wharehouse where i ran across this old behemoth...

http://www.i5tools.eu/assets/images/AS400_eServer_9406-170-2386_with_7101_Extension1.jpg

stats:
* A 9406 Model 170 with 2386 Processor card (P20 Processor group)
* CPW of 460, of which 70 is interactive
* A 7101 Extension Cabinet, allowing up to 10 disk drives
* 1400 Mb of Main Storage Memory
* 5 x 17,8 GB disk drives (#6824)
* 1 x RAID 5 controller card with 26 Mb cache (#2748)
* 1 x 4 GB/8 GB Tape unit
* 1 x CD-ROM drive.
* IBM OS/400 V5R3M0
* Physical Dimensions:
o Width 55 cm
o Height: 61 cm
o Depth 66 cm
o Weight: approx. 70Kg

it is a big monster... and i mean BIG...

reminded me of the MM or LianLi cubes...

it is probably all steel... hence 70Kg weight...
but the possiblities... very very tempting...

i think i will bring it home soon... gut it out and keep it in safe storage till the wifey gets in a bit better mood...

my latest Stacker 832 build has not yet been completed... and is pissing her off... ha ha ha...

so any of you guys have any experience on one of these beasts?
modding it is going to take some work, eh?

ha ha ha...

if you think that's bad, wait till you see specs on a battery unit for the AS400...

that thing needs 4 dudes to lift it.

but i'm going to strip it out before moving it...
take out the PSU, the MB and everything i dont need...

i figure i need to buy sliding MB tray to replace the exisiting one...

but in any case, i dont think i'll be starting on that project anytime soon...

i'm already making the parts lists in my head tho... ha ha ha

Could you take some pics of the inside if you get your hands on it? I like the idea of a case that no one can steal!

154 lbs is a BIG case man!

Maybe a cheap alternative to an MM case?

i was about to get a as400 from my mothers work a while back, unfortunately they "want" to try to sell it, so that means it'll sit in the basement for the next year or so, ohh how i wanted to have it.
