I have one of the original E6600's, from back when they were unbelievably rad (and $360!!) and was thinking I'd like some better performance out of it than what my Intel D975XBX is giving me. The little overclock menu mod for the board was great and helped me nail 3120mhz... But that is all.
It seems that although my board allows for a "+50% Burn In" it only responds up to +30% which lands me solidly and emphatically at an immobile 3120 maximum overclock. I have run stable with this for months and am ready to push the envelope with this little beast!
In searching for ideas, I found this page here:

I couldn't find any definitive information on whether or not this would make my C2D a bland dorito™... Has this been done successfully? I would be doing this one (obviously)

Would this allow me to make further use of my "Burn In" mode that I might be able to hit significantly higher clocks? Are there any other possibly better things I could do to squeeze more performance out of my old Bad Axe and C2D? I've tried the 1333 fsb strap in the BIOS and it fails to post, even though as I write this CPU-Z shows me running at 1386.7 fsb.:shakes: What an odd board!
Thanks for taking the time to read this folks!!

Here, you will like this: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=132900&highlight=1333fsb+mod

iirc there is something you need to do to enable more overclocking options in the bios of the XBX1.

Very interesting reading... Raises some concern though, because it basically says that the board will want to use the 1333 fsb strap in the bios..... I have the option of selecting that currently and my system fails to post, even if I put it at a -30% Burn In mode... which should yield a perfectly postable fsb. Actually, does the mod described in the links posted here make it so the cpu will somehow... "let" you use the 1333 boot strap?? There seems to be no general consensus on whether there are certain features that are magically unsupported, so I'm kinda unsure if this will merely do what my bios would try to do and will merely make my system not post. I don't want to do it if it won't do something my bios won't.
I did the mod to get the extra overclocking options and that's all I get!! I would've picked a different board in retrospect had I known then what I know now!!
Aaand holy crud, how on earth are those Super Pi numbers possible? My C2D lags behind by almost 3 minutes by loop 5... and it's running at 3120mhz! Even with 4 cores it shouldn't be ANY more than twice as fast, and it shouldn't even do double my speed just because of system bus overhead on 4 cores and all...... Are the quads that ridiculous much better!?
Edit: Wow, yeah, it's a xeon chip. My bad. Never mind that!!!

You can get much further than 400Mhz FSB, even at 266/1066Mhz FSB strap. All you need to do is a alittle bios modding. Have a look at the D975XBX thread. I described the method there. BTW, those boards are damn fast with 266 strap, high FSB and low RAM timings.
