I just assembled an Abit IS7 based system. My first P4 system actually.
Has anyone ever heard or experienced this problem:
dimm 0 & 1 refuses to work (gives beeps which signal memory error), while dimm 2 $ 3 work fine.
Ive tested with 3 different sticks of ram...2 winbond bh5's and 1 hynix based and same thing.
Flashed to latest bios and still no change.
Any solutions or is RMA a forgone conclusion?

Have you used one piece of ram.
In just one slot.

Yes one stick at a time...one slot at a time.

My IS7 has never had any issues like yours, however I believe I've seen similar problem posted on Abit forums, I believe the fellow ended up with an rma. If you haven't already you might want to try some different memory if possible...

Hmmm I cant say I had this on my IS7 either.
I got one of the first revision with the Gigabit lan on it and imo I rekon they were the same build quality as the IC7 :)
I do have troubles with my DIMM 4 slot on the MAX3 not being as good as the other 3....but the IS7 was awesome.....I didnt experiment fully, but imo 2+4 were the better slots for Dual Channel mode :)

Yeah my IS7 came with the gigabit too so I had such high hopes for her!
I will get my hands on some more sticks before I rma...or see if divine intervention takes place.

Illbleed welcome to Xtreme !!! :toast: glad to see you here !
I would take a flash light and look at the inside of the dimm sockets to see if any of the contact fingers are bent down. I bent a couple on my IC7 on the very first attempt to insert the ram.

What's this all about? I've had my IS7 (not G) for a while now too
When I install my lan driver, I see "Gigabit 3com Ethernet", and I CAN select 1000mbps in the options. Could it be that it is really a 1gbit NIC ? Or is it just a driver issue?
(i have no problems what so ever with the ram banks, I use 4 sticks of pc3200 corsair xms3200)

Magnum, indeed the early IS7 had on board gigabit lan, yours sounds to be the early version as well....
