So I have a douchebag neighbor. She accused me of reckless driving on 2 separate occasions and threatened to call the cops. This is complete BS, but I would have no proof if she did in fact go through with it.
I would like to make a passive car security system;
Dashboard Cam 640x480
Read Cam 640x480
L & R Cams 640x480
Speed Cam 320x240. Records dash speed & rpm.
L & R 22khz microphones
I am looking to record all of those sources at the same time. Some compression. I was thinking an Intel Atom CPU. Up to the job?
I need really low power hardware. Whole system would be running off a secondary car battery.

The question is: how can SHE prove it!
If you want to build it today maybe mini-ITX systems could be the answer.
Dont expect it to be cheap or fast though.
Also that much cams probably means a lot of hdd space.
I don't know how much coumputing power or extra hardware would be required to record all that.

Use this as you starting point. Maybe someone will have a good idea from it. :)

HDD space is no problem. The system would overwrite stuff older than _____ hours. 24-72 depends on price and type of storage.
I've already got a DC-DC high efficiency PSU in mind, and an adapter to put a secondary battery in the car without draining the main.
Maybe I should wait? For Diamondville? Its supposedly the dual core Atom.
I've considered already built systems. Problem is I cant spare near 60W to run them.

Should you wait depends how much time do you thing you have until she takes one crack dose to many and files charges. :D
60W! - that can't be right for just a bare system.
You can run underclocked AMD BE chips and 2.5"hdd with a Pico Psu at 20W.
And those Via based systems should match that easily.
I was running that setup + one 1TB hdd at 30W idle.
But how do yo plan on connecting that many cameras to the pc?

The answer is you go and speak IN PERSON to the Police dept and explain that this is harassment from a neighbor due to a difference between the two of you. THEN they will ask her to back up her statements with proof or she can be the one in trouble for making false accusations. That is a crime.
Use the Police Dept to your advantage and good luck..
Oh, the DB word, please don't use that here ok?
Thanks and good luck.

No problem.
But anyway I already had this monitoring/security system in mind for at least 6 months ever since my car got hit.
This is another reason to get it working.

You're much better off getting a dedicated surveillance system - it will be a lot cheaper and much easier to hook up. Here's one with 8 cameras and a dvr
Q-See 8 channel network dvr (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11271035&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|79&N=4001405&Mo=17&No=5&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4802&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=)
Otherwise you're talking about multi channel PCI card - probably 2 since they normally only have 4 inputs. Then you've got to get the software to work and figure out how you're going boot up and shut down every time you get into the car. A dedicated system would be simple and probably more tolerant of temperature extremes, being jostled, etc.
As far as someone trying to get you busted on a traffic offense, the rule here in NJ is that if you want to file such a complaint, you have to prosecute it yourself. Otherwise, every time someone had a grudge they just call the police and say so-and-so did such-and-such. But if you prosecute it yourself, they know you're for real. Most people don't have the stones to do something like that. And even if they do, as was pointed out before, they still need to prove their case. So if she's just being vindictive and you're driving safely, there's no chance she could ever have any proof.

That's awesome.
