View Full Version : custom made case
Heres a couple pics of case I'm building top and front view. If I decide I like the design and layout will get it made out of aluminium .still a fair way to go its made of mdf and ply and room for 4 tipple 120mm radiators the triple holes on front are mirrored on back. bigger hole on front will have acrylic window as will top. Dimensions are 600mm H 550mm w and 500mm D.Cheers will update post as it progresses.

How many pc's, phase changes, water cooling loops and fans are you going to put in that monster?
One pc/ 4 mcr320 QP radiators/ 4 laing D5 Variable pumps/ 4 loops/3, 250mm fans just for decent airflow 12 120mm for rads. will be air cooled till I can afford the watercooling and new pc components. Lots of room to spare!!! Is there an auxiliary power supply that does not need to be shorted out to work so I can power my watercooling gear? Also what is a good way to seal /waterproof mdf? cheers.
bit more progress put some molding around window opening and cut and fitted a plastic molding off the same case I got mobo tray from, around dvd drive opening. :yepp:

Is there an auxiliary power supply that does not need to be shorted out to work so I can power my watercooling gear?
Are you wanting to test one at a time, or run all 4 once your system is built?
Are you wanting to test one at a time, or run all 4 once your system is built?
run all 4 at once, once it buit.I'm getting an extremly old one I can use for leak testing that does not need to be shorted but would not trust it to run the cooling full time.

Ha ha, excellent! I think this thread is singlehandedly going to make me look through the case subforum a little more often.
I love that with all these fans, including a 250mm fan, are just for "decent" airflow to you - you definitely belong at XS... those wusses on other forums would have called it overkill.
I look forward to the progress and hope you do like it enough to make one out of metal, that would be sick.

will be having 3 x 250mm fans(one in back and 2 in right side) as well as the radiator fans when I eventually have enough money to set up the watercooling.:yepp: I like it more and more as build goes on!!
got aluminium on today. Now have to wait a few weeks to get money together( will do the sanding in meantime) to buy fans so I can fit them then it will be ready for the paint thinking red hammer coat inside and out. pics are front view and the right side where I am considering mounting two more 250mm fans.Hey if anybody has one of these fans http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=327&products_id=20929 could you please post detailed dimensions maybe i could set up the mountings for them while waiting for money cheers

you should get those aluminum edgings chromed ;), or acid burn them to 'age' them, depending on the look you're going for
think I will be painting the edge still decieding on what to do thanks for your input
change of plan on right hand end there will be one 250mm fan on top and bottom will have clear window with the reservoirs mounted to it

Finally, a project bigger than Mithril! Awesome work, mine is 4 rads too, but it is more geared toward everything is precisely balanced to just enough to keep it VERY happy-there's not so much wiggle room in my config...
You can waterproof the MDF just by painting/clearcoating it. Don't know what MDF exactly is, but if it's sawdaust and glue pressed into a board, it'd be a smart idea to seal the edges - when cutting they can get roughed up. MDF doesn't look like it though. For extreme security you could put something like bondo all over it in a thin layer and paint over that.
I drew up a reservoir design in google sketchup could somebody here please take a look and see if it will work never built a reservoir or used watercooling. Also what thickness/ type of acylic is recomended for res cheers and thanks in advance.:D

I'm on my daughter's comp at the moment and don't have sketchup installed, but as for material, the best is 1/4" cast acrylic. For solvent, tap plastics makes a good solvent that melts the acrylic together. Or you can use IPS Weld-on #3.
ordered some stuff Im waiting on yesterday from performance pcs over there in the states due mid next week.as soon as it arrives will be able to do some more going to cut the hole for res and window on right side more than likely tomorrow

just one word:
overwhelming!!!!!!!!!!
I have noticed on a couple of retail reservoirs that if you use coolant other than pc ice or distilled water it it affects the glue and voids the warranty.Just wondering if the strength of the weld on glue is affected by fluid xp or fesser coolants.
made some more progress cut the window on right hand end which will be a window and the hole for the reservoir on front. The stuff I ordered from the states cleared customs over here today so will prob get it tomorrow or next day.than can fit fans and prep for painting:D

holy crap thats a badass case your making there... i love the sliding mobotray
subscribed to thread.. can't wait for finished product
got my stuff from states today and got the 250mm fan grills fitted now can start finishing it off
just wondering the shroud on the swiftech mcr320 QP radiator that the fans screw to is it removable I used a radgrillz template to drill out the radiator mounting and they are out by a mile I used the A3 template is there some trick to printing it so its the right size just dont understand what went wrong. If the fan shroud on the rad is removable I might be able to get away with re drilling the fan shroud otherwise it will be major job to fix it .
ordered 2 rads (mcr 320 QP) and 6 yate loon fans today from the states once they arrive will make up an adapter plate to suit my case in the meantime will start prepping rest of case for painting.
You can avoid having to cut slots for the bottoms of the motherboard expansion card brackets if you use tall, 1/2-inch standoffs:

visual affects and the idea i had was to try and stop to much turbulance and airation of the fluid feel free to change it as necessary the only thing i want kept the same is the dimensions the 4 seperate chambers and the hole for the barb that is on the side rather than on the end so it will be easier to plumb to the second video card

If I go with mesh will paint it same color as case for acrylic will go with clear definately putting mesh in bottom of right hand end with all 4 rads in place will have 12 yate loons pumping max 70cfm each of air through rads so want to exhaust as much as possible without sucking it up into top section accross mobo/hdd's.Top 250mm fans push 100cfm each. may even put acrylic sheet in to seperate top and bottom sections.
